ᖁᑭᐅᑏᑦ ᐊᓪᓚᑕᐅᓯᒪᒋᐊᖃᕐᓂᖏᑦ

and Mylène Larivière sit on a steering committee that oversees
the program and will play a role in implementing the program.
Salmon Sport fishing
The Quebec government announced regulatory changes last
spring that required all salmon sport fishermen to use the services
of an outfitter in order to fish for salmon. The regulation met with
strong opposition from southern fishermen, and the Minister of
Forests, Parks and Wildlife eventually agreed to a revised interpretation
of the regulation, whereby bush pilots could continue to
travel to Nunavik to fish so long as they paid a $75 registration fee
to one of the outfitters operating in the region. Makivik continues
to oppose this decision and RDD staff is actively participating in
working groups that are responsible to implement the minister’s
decision.
Arctic Charr
RDD staff collaborated with the MFFP, as well as researchers at a
number of universities to plan and undertake research on a number
of Arctic charr streams in Nunavik. Given the importance of Arctic
charr for Nunavik, the fact that most charr stock have never been
assessed and because there are several small-scale commercial
fisheries in Nunavik, this type of work is important to ensure that
harvesting practices remain sustainable. The HFTCC is responsible
for approving commercial licenses and hopes to better understand
the impacts of these decisions on local stocks.
Muskox
The interactions between caribou and muskox have generated
significant discussion throughout Nunavik. RDD staff has partnered
with the MFFP and Laval University to conduct a scientific assessment
of these interactions. This research involves the radio-collaring
of several muskox. The data obtained will allow us to better understand
the movement patterns and expansion of muskox in Nunavik.

les territoires naskapi et inuit depuis les années 1980. Makivik a
reçu 2,5 M$ et sera responsable du nettoyage de plusieurs camps
au Nunavik. Mark O’Connor et Mylène Larivière siègent au comité
directeur qui supervise et assure la mise en œuvre du programme.
Pêche sportive au saumon
Le gouvernement du Québec a annoncé le printemps dernier
des modifications réglementaires obligeant tous les pêcheurs
sportifs de saumon à utiliser les services d’une pourvoirie. Les
pêcheurs du sud se sont vivement opposés à cette réglementation
et le ministre des Forêts, des Parcs et de la Faune a accepté une
interprétation révisée du règlement permettant aux pilotes de
brousse de continuer à venir au Nunavik pour pêcher, à condition
de payer des frais d’inscription de 75 $ à l’une des pourvoiries de
la région. Makivik s’oppose à cette décision et le personnel du SRD
participe activement aux groupes de travail chargés de mettre en
œuvre la décision du ministre.
L’omble chevalier
Le SDR a collaboré avec le MFFP et des chercheurs universitaires
pour planifier et entreprendre des recherches concernant plusieurs
cours d’eau fréquentés par l’omble chevalier au Nunavik. Ce type
de recherche est important pour assurer la durabilité des pratiques
de récolte compte tenu de l’importance de l’omble chevalier au
Nunavik, du fait que la plupart des stocks n’ont jamais été évalués
et qu’il existe plusieurs pêcheries commerciales à petite échelle au
Nunavik. Le CCCPP est responsable de l’approbation des permis
commerciaux et espère mieux comprendre les impacts de ses
décisions sur les stocks locaux d’omble chevalier.
Le bœuf musqué
Les interactions entre le caribou et le bœuf musqué ont suscité
de nombreuses discussions au Nunavik. Le SDR s’est associé au MFFP
