This past year has been a challenging but fruitful year for Makivik’s
Economic Development Department. I am delighted to have taken
the challenge head on and the positive outcomes we have seen from
this past year prove that a hard-working team can be very successful.
As you may recall, we made some strategic changes to the
Economic Development Department in the first two years of my
term and again this past fiscal year we made strides in how the
department operates to ensure we identify and meet realistic objectives.
This past fiscal year we re-organized our 25 active files into
five major areas of interest:
• Industry Sector Development;
• Economic Development;
• Socio-Economic Development;
• Policy;
• Support Programs.
Our Director of Economic Development was involved in a oneyear
review of the Nuvviti Development Corporation and with this
re-evaluation, our Economic Development Department at Makivik
will now play an integral role with the Nuvviti Board of Directors to
develop new business opportunities for the region on behalf of the
Nunavik Inuit. With this in mind, we have also re-organized our staff
and their mandates. Our department has industry specific expertise
in a variety of sectors including mining, energy, tourism, fisheries
and infrastructure development. In addition to industry sector
expertise, we have also continued to provide several socio-economic
programs for the region. We want to ensure the continued

Malgré de nombreux défis, la dernière année a été fructueuse
pour le Service du développement économique de Makivik. Les
résultats positifs obtenus au cours de l’exercice prouvent que les
efforts de mon équipe ont porté fruit.
Comme vous le savez, nous avons apporté des changements
stratégiques à l’organisation du Service du développement économique
au cours des deux premières années de mon mandat, ce qui
nous a permis de considérablement améliorer le fonctionnement
interne l’an dernier afin d’atteindre des objectifs réalistes. Au cours
du dernier exercice, nous avons réorganisé nos 25 dossiers actifs
en cinq principaux domaines d’intérêt :
• Développement du secteur industriel;
• Développement économique;
• Développement socio-économique;
• Politiques;
• Programmes de soutien.
Le directeur du développement économique a participé activement
à l’examen du fonctionnement de la Société de développement
Nuvviti qui s’est échelonné sur une période d’un an. À la suite de cet
exercice, le Service du développement économique jouera un rôle
de premier plan auprès du conseil d’administration de Nuvviti afin
de créer de nouvelles occasions d’affaires dans le région pour les
Inuit du Nunavik. Dans cet esprit, nous avons réorganisé les tâches
et les mandats de notre personnel. Notre équipe possède de l’expertise
dans différents secteurs, notamment les mines, l’énergie, le
tourisme, les pêches et le développement des infrastructures. Outre
