BASIC INFORMATION<br />

Bendigo Health is the largest employer in the region<br />

with more than 4000 staff and 300 volunteers. Bendigo<br />

Health Care Group (commonly known as Bendigo<br />

Health), is an expanding regional health service offering<br />

the advantages of city life combined with the beauty<br />

and freedom that comes from living in a regional area.<br />

Bendigo Health recently moved into a brand new world<br />

class hospital, the largest regional hospital in Victoria.<br />

It features 372 inpatient beds, 72 same-day acute<br />

beds, an 80 bed integrated psychiatric inpatient unit<br />

(including a parent-infant unit), 11 operating theatres,<br />

a regional integrated Cancer Centre, a 110 place<br />

childcare centre, a 128 room accommodation facility,<br />

as well as retail shops and cafes. There is also a multistorey<br />

car park, a conference facility and a helipad.<br />

The organisation provides services in emergency,<br />

maternity, women’s health, medical imaging, pathology,<br />

rehabilitation, community services, residential aged<br />

care, psychiatric care, community dental, hospice/<br />

palliative care, cardiology, cancer services and renal<br />

dialysis to the people of the Loddon Mallee region.<br />

The Rural Generalist - East Gippsland Community<br />

Based Intern program creates a rural pathway for<br />

intern training, which provides competitive career<br />

choices compared with metropolitan hospital-based<br />

internships. Interns experience working in hospitals<br />

in which both specialists and general practitioners<br />
