Concord Repatriation General Hospital is a principal referral facility and a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. We offer a comprehensive range of specialty and sub-specialty services, many recognised nationally and internationally as centres of excellence. Furthermore, the hospital is linked to Concord Centre for Mental Health is on site. Redevelopment Stage 1 of the new Concord Hospital is currently underway with a planned opening late 2021. CANTERBURY HOSPITAL Canterbury Hospital is an acute general metropolitan district hospital situated 12 km south of Concord Hospital and 15 km SW of the GPO. It is part of the Sydney Local Health District, which comprises of Balmain, Canterbury, Concord, Concord Centre for Mental Health, Royal Prince Alfred and the Sydney Dental Hospitals. Canterbury Hospital services a population of 230,000 with two-thirds speaking a language other than English as its first language. The main language groups are Greek, Italian, Arabic, Vietnamese, Chinese, Bengali and Korean. More recently, a significant number of refugees and humanitarian entrants have come from Burma, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Iraq, Pakistan, and Sudan. community. Broken Hill is a self-reliant, strong regional community with services and facilities to support an active, vibrant resident population. The community values and shares the region’s unique natural and built environment with regional, national and international visitors. The lack of traffic and daily commuting mean you’ll find hours in the day you forgot existed, which usually see’s people’s social lives blossom. The Far West LHD provides a solid start to any medical professional’s career. The size and workforce profile ensures that junior doctors, and particularly interns have access to consultant staff that is unattainable in large metropolitan settings. The breadth of work ensures that you’ll gain exposure to a diverse range of clinical presentations, with the support to allow you to quickly develop your clinical skills and confidence. The Far West LHD is committed to developing a career path for rural generalists, as well as providing future specialists comprehensive grounding to support their future careers. This approach is a collaborative effort involving the LHD, Broken Hill university Department of Rural Health, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Maari Ma Health Aboriginal Corporation and Far West Medicare Local. Opening in 1929 with 28 beds, it underwent redevelopment in 1998 and its 200 beds covers the broad scope of emergency medicine, general medicine and surgery, ENT surgery, urology, orthopaedics, hand surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, anaesthetics, high dependency, psychiatry, drug and alcohol, aged care and rehabilitation and some outpatient clinics. It is supported by a Hospital in the Home Service. Despite its size, Canterbury Hospital plays an integral role within the local community in the provision of acute care medicine, with its Emergency Department attending to over 46,000 presentations in the 2018-2019 year. Canterbury Hospital also plays a significant role in the delivery of maternal services, with a significantly higher fertility rate than NSW overall. However, women within its catchment tend to present later for antenatal care and together with a lower levels of vaccination, suggest that an overall poorer maternal health profile. BROKEN HILL HEALTH SERVICE Part of Far West LHD, Broken Hill, also known as The Silver City, is a great place to live. It has a rich and colourful history and is renowned for its art and creativity, beautiful weather and outback lifestyle. The network also includes the Broken Hill Health Service and allows on-call duties with RFDS. There is also a strong Consultant support network; they are all very approachable and the atmosphere is one of support. Consultants trained at Concord are also more aware of JMO training issues and needs, hence adding to this supportive atmosphere. The current DPET Dr Probal Roy (Cardiologist) was a Concord intern. The current Director of Medical Education – Dr Robert Russo and chair of the NCPTC (Network Clinical Prevocational Training Committee) was recruited to Concord in his RMO1 year and remains as the HOD in Nuclear Medicine and Rheumatologist. Prof Lewis Chan still retains a role as the Chair of the General Clinical Training Council for the network; in 2014, he was the recipient of the AMA/ASMOF Supervisor of the Year. Additionally, Jean Mah-Collins (JMO Manager) was co-recipient of the AMA/ ASMOF JMO Manager of the Year in 2015. Lastly, the network training sites all work in sync with each other and the administrative unit support is considered extremely helpful and supportive.

It is an exciting hospital to work in and study at. Liverpool provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care. It also provides a range of statewide services in areas of critical care, trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation. The facility serves a rapidly increasing population from diverse cultures, religious and language backgrounds, making our community vibrant and exciting. REASONS TO APPLY Liverpool Hospital is situated in one of the fastestgrowing regions within an education and health precinct which includes the Ingham Institute of Applied Medical Research, a Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre and the Clinical Schools of UNSW and Western Sydney University. Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching hospital with a strong commitment to teaching and support for its Junior and Resident Medical Staff. The hospital also has a well-equipped gym and educational facilities include a well-stocked library and full access to electronic learning resources. Liverpool will be undergoing a major redevelopment with the development of a new Liverpool Health , Education, Research and Innovation Precinct. Tweed Heads, where JMOs may spend a rotation or two, is situated close to world renowned beaches and is close to the Gold Coast and Brisbane.
