AHPRA English requirements<br />

there are a lot of exceptions/ exemptions, so check which category you fall into). Students should take English<br />

tests as soon as possible.<br />

To summarise, you need to:<br />

1. Have completed primary, secondary and tertiary education in a recognised country (Australia, Canada, New<br />

Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, or United States of America); OR<br />

2. Completed 2 years of secondary + tertiary education in a recognised country; OR<br />

3. Completed 6 years of continuous study in a recognised country; OR<br />

4. Received a minimum score in an English proficiency exam:<br />

• With the exam having been completed within the last 2 years OR<br />

• “More than two years before the date you lodge your application for registration if, in the period since the<br />

test result was obtained, you:<br />

» have been continuously enrolled in a Board-approved program of study (which commenced within 12<br />

months of the date of the test) and undertook subjects in each semester, with no break from study apart<br />

from the education provider’s scheduled holidays, and<br />

» lodge your application for registration within 12 months of completing the Board approved program of<br />

study (i.e. med school in Australia).”<br />
