Through the Medical Education Unit, the Intern<br />

Training Program has a strong network with UQ’s Rural<br />

Clinical School Rockhampton Campus. This provides<br />

opportunities to be included in learning programs<br />

with the medical students and also in supporting the<br />

training of students through teaching opportunities.<br />

Rockhampton Hospital has a new Cancer Care Services<br />

Centre which occupies three floors of the new ward block<br />

comprising of Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology/<br />

Haematology ambulatory clinics and treatment,<br />

Inpatient Cancer Care and Specialist Palliative Care.<br />

New Medical Officer facilities have opened in March<br />

2016 which include a modern kitchen and lounge area,<br />

computer room, study area and sleep pod rooms for<br />

overnight on-call. Rockhampton Hospital has a very<br />

active Resident Medical Officer Society (RMO society),<br />

providing a great variety of social opportunities to build<br />

friendships and also having a link with the hospital<br />

executive medical administration to collaboratively<br />

discuss any issues and to arrive at solutions.<br />

Rockhampton has a population of about 80,000 and the<br />

hospital serves a population of 200,000. Rockhampton<br />

is 660km north of Brisbane direct daily flights. Gladstone<br />

has a population of 60,000 and is about 550km north of<br />

Brisbane. One hour and 20 minutes by air to Brisbane.<br />

REASONS TO APPLY<br />

Rockhampton is near to areas of natural beauty<br />

such as the Capricorn Coast, Blacktown Tablelands,<br />

rainforest areas at Byfield National Park for camping<br />

and bushwalking, Keppel Islands with white sandy<br />

beaches. Interns commence the year with an<br />

orientation at North Keppel Island which provides a<br />

pristine relaxing environment for team building. There’s<br />

more to the Rockhampton Region than clear skies<br />

and sailing and a vast array of sporting opportunities!<br />

Rockhampton has plenty of natural attractions and with<br />

an average of over 300 days of sunshine each year, the<br />

Rockhampton Region offers locals and visitors alike<br />

many opportunities.<br />

Gladstone is balanced with large areas of green open<br />

space, including several national parks, historical sites,<br />

bush walks and marine activities, including fishing<br />

and crabbing, residents have a wide choice to explore<br />

and experience the great outdoors. A strong sense of<br />

community with a “can do” attitude and a relaxed and<br />

friendly atmosphere permeates throughout the region.<br />

BASIC INFORMATION<br />

Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH)<br />

is a quaternary and tertiary referral teaching<br />

hospital located at the Metro North Hospital and<br />

Health Service (MNHHS) Herston site, close to<br />

the Brisbane CBD. RBWH is Queensland’s largest<br />

hospital with almost 1000 beds and provides<br />

highly- specialised care to more than half a million<br />

patients every year. RBWH’s extensive services are<br />

delivered by a team of 6000 doctors, nurses, allied<br />

health, operational and administration staff. The<br />

hospital participates in world-leading research and<br />

education in pursuit of excellence in specialised<br />

care to deliver the best possible patient outcomes.<br />

Also located at the Herston site is The University<br />

of Queensland, Queensland Institute of Medical<br />

Research and the Herston Imaging Research Facility.<br />

The Rural General Practice terms at Emerald and<br />

Theodore provide the unique opportunity to be<br />

immersed in true country hospitality and the experience<br />

of being part of the local community.<br />
