BASIC INFORMATION
SALHN provides the opportunity to
practice medicine across a broad range of
specialties in a supportive environment. The
education team within the Trainee Medical
Officer Unit provides comprehensive and
dynamic training opportunities in their weekly
intern tutorial program, simulation program,
clinical skills workshops and the five-day
orientation program.
Additionally, SALHN provides education,
information and support for interns and general
trainees who are interested in a General Practice
career pathway.
QUOTE FROM CURRENT INTERNS
• I moved from Queensland to Adelaide to
work at SALHN because of the reputation
as a supportive work culture. I can’t think
of anything more important during your
intern year. It is absolutely a well deserved
reputation and I’ve nothing but praise for the
work culture here, top to bottom and team
to team.
• If I was to sum up what I’ve enjoyed the
most about internship at SALHN so far, it
would probably be that ‘everyone genuinely
88
cares’. Not only about how we’re coping with
the transition to being an intern, but also about
how we’re developing as people and as doctors
towards our own goals. The education has of
course been fantastic, however, I think it’s the
support that has really helped us to make the
most of those opportunities.
COUNTRY
HEALTH SA
On 1 July 2019, the Country Health SA Local Health
Network was replaced by six regional local health
networks (LHNs), each led by a governing board.
These six new regional LHNs are:
• Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network
• Eyre and Far North Local Health Network
• Flinders and Upper North Local Health Network
• Limestone Coast Local Health Network
• Riverland Mallee Coorong Local Health Network
• Yorke and Northern Local Health Network
Riverland Mallee Coorong
The Riverland Mallee Coorong LHN is one of the six
local health networks following the devolvement of
CHSA. RMCLHN has twelve hospitals in the region
with Riverland General Hospital being the major
hospital in the southern end of the region and Murray
Bridge Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in the northern
end of the region. The RMCLHN follows the River
Murray through the majority of sites from Renmark
to Tailem Bend with three Mallee sites and one
hospital in the Coorong on Lake Alexander. The region
has aspirations to be involved as a Training Site for
Medical Rotations but at this stage we do not have
the medical staff in place to undertake same.
Please do not hesitate to contact the A/Executive
Director Medical Services of RMCLHN, Dr Tim Smart
if you would like further clarification or information.
