Internship Guide 2020 - Updated

The Queensland Rural Generalist Pathway (QRGP)
offers graduating medical students the opportunity
to explore a wide variety of clinical training and
develop the advanced skill set required to support
the health needs of rural communities. Applications
for the 2021 QRGP opened in February 2020 and
closed on 12 March 2020.
During Intern and Junior House Officer (JHO) years,
trainees will work in one of the dedicated training
hospitals including Cairns, Townsville, Mackay,
Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Ipswich,
Toowoomba, Redcliffe, Caboolture, Logan, Sunshine
Coast University Hospital, Redland Hospital and
Mount Isa.
Selection into the pathway includes a written
application and, if shortlisted, an interview where
candidates need to demonstrate they are prepared
for and motivated to live and work as rural generalists
in a rural community. The pathway usually takes 5-6
years to complete and offers all trainees mentoring,
support and career navigation for the duration.

places as well, open to all medical graduates.
Preference for places is given as per the Category system
for all QLD internships.
