BASIC INFORMATION<br />

NHW is a leading healthcare service committed<br />

to providing high quality care for our community.<br />

In recognition of our service excellence NHW was<br />

awarded the Premiers Award for Regional Health<br />

Service of the year in 2014. Our facility is a modern<br />

222 bed hospital providing emergency and elective<br />

clinical services to a primary catchment of 28,000<br />

people and a secondary catchment of approximately<br />

100,000. NHW is a major referral facility for the Central<br />

Hume Region with a budget in excess of $100 million<br />

and employs over 1,200 dedicated employees.<br />

The hospital is located at the foot of the Australian<br />

Alps on the Hume Highway, and is a designated<br />

Regional Trauma Service. The Emergency Department<br />

at NHW is the only 24 hour emergency medical facility<br />

between Melbourne and Albury-Wodonga and last year<br />

provided care to over 22,000 patient presentations.<br />

REASONS TO APPLY<br />

The health service offers supervision by trained<br />

specialists, a supportive environment with dedicated<br />

multi-disciplinary teams, and an excellent teaching<br />

program. In addition, weekly JMO education programs<br />

are provided to interns and residents by the University<br />

of Melbourne and workshops are available through<br />

Murray to Mountain Program.<br />

BASIC INFORMATION<br />

Interns at Northern Health are provided a supportive<br />

and safe environment for internship, including weekly<br />

mandatory teaching sessions, an engaged and<br />

organised Medical Education Unit with a dedicated<br />

Supervisor of Intern Training, and a well resourced<br />

Medical Workforce Unit.<br />

REASONS TO APPLY<br />

Northern Health’s campuses provide a unique mix<br />

of services including medical, surgical, emergency,<br />

intensive and coronary care, paediatrics, women’s and<br />

maternal health, mental health, aged care, palliative<br />

care, and rehabilitation programs. The health service<br />

has passionate and dedicated clinicians who offer<br />

learning and training to interns.<br />

Here, interns and residents are known to their teams<br />

and are not just a face in the crowd. The hospital also<br />

employs a dedicated Intern Training Supervisor who<br />

is instrumental in organising innovative and practical<br />

training programs, and supports the welfare of junior<br />

doctors.<br />

The Teaching on the Run programs are conducted<br />

for interns, in addition to surgical workshops in<br />

collaboration with Austin Health at the College of<br />

Surgeons Skills Laboratory. Besides that, leadership<br />

and management courses are offered to interns and<br />

residents throughout the year.<br />
