Q: If I get an offer in a non-preferred hospital, and another student also gets a non-preferred
appointment, can we do a direct swap by mutual agreement?
A: No. Allocations of offers may only be issued by THS
Q: When will offers be made and how will I be notified?
A: First round offers will be made nationally from Monday 13 July 2020. Subsequent offers will be
made based on jurisdictional arrangements, which will vary. For Tasmania, any subsequent offers
will be made on a scheduled basis subject to the number of positions available.
Q: Will couples (joint) applications affect the success or otherwise of the members of the couple?
A: Where a joint application is made, applicants must recognise that they will then be assessed based
on their combined application. If a joint placement is not available at their hospital of first
preference, the applicants will be allocated to their next available preferenced under subscribed
Hospital where two (2) positions are vacant. NOTE: Both applicants must be applying for Medical
Intern positions.
Q: If I accept an appointment at a Tasmanian hospital, but then get a later offer from a preferred
hospital either interstate or within Tasmania, can I change my mind?
A: Within Tasmania, offers will be made and continue to be made on a case by case basis in order of
merit and hospital site preferences up until the Late Vacancy Management Program (LVMP).
Should an applicant accept an offer with a Tasmanian hospital they can subsequently withdraw to
take up a position interstate. Applicants should advise the relevant medical workforce unit of any
decision to withdraw within two days of accepting the interstate offer.
Q: What happens if I don’t get an offer at all?
A: All Priority 1 applicants (i.e. Australian permanent resident Tasmanian trained Australian
Government supported or full fee paying) will receive an offer during first round offers. Not until all
Priority 1 applicants have accepted the offer of a position in Tasmania or interstate will offers be
made to Priority 2 applicants (i.e. Australian temporary resident Tasmanian trained full fee paying).
Q: If I do not receive my first preference can I request feedback on my application?
A: No. The application has no assessable part and the preferenced based ballot system does not have
an assessment process.
Q: Will I be paid removal expenses if I need to relocate?
A: No. Relocation assistance will not be offered to Interns, any relocation costs are at the applicants
own expense.
