BASIC INFORMATION<br />

St. Vincent’s Hospital is a major public teaching<br />

hospital and a principal tertiary referral hospital,<br />

which specialises in heart/ lung transplantation, bone<br />

marrow transplantation, cardiology, oncology, HIV<br />

medicine, respiratory medicine, mental health and<br />

drug and alcohol services.<br />

There is a strong association with the Garvan Institute<br />

for Medical Research, the Victor Chang Institute for<br />

Cardiac Research and the Kinghorn Cancer Centre.<br />

Centrally located in Darlinghurst, St. Vincent’s Hospital<br />

sits on the edge of Sydney’s business district, close to<br />

major transport and superb cafés.<br />

REASONS TO APPLY<br />

In terms of clinical exposure, we offer experience in<br />

a number of unique specialties such as transplant<br />

medicine. We have an interesting demographic of<br />

patients offering Junior Medical Officers exposure<br />

to homeless health, Psychiatry, and those suffering<br />

from drugs of addiction. In terms of our structured<br />

education program, we offer a weekly teaching<br />

program (following the unified lecture series),<br />

Teaching on the Run, a JMO Mentoring Program,<br />

Peer Led Teaching, Surgical Skills labs and Simulation<br />

Sessions. Our hospital does not have Paediatrics or<br />

Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Off site secondment<br />

terms for paediatrics are at Sydney Childrens and<br />

Canterbury Hospitals (for PGY2 only). Obstetrics and<br />

Gynaecology is available at Wagga Wagga during<br />

PGY 2 year.<br />
