BASIC INFORMATION<br />

West Moreton Hospital and Health Service’s (WMHHS)<br />

current population is approximately 245,000 people,<br />

which is forecast to increase to an expected 450,000<br />

people by 2026 – an 82 percent increase. This<br />

projected increase is the largest of any hospital and<br />

health service in Queensland. WMHHS provides<br />

public services for residents across the continuum<br />

of healthcare including preventative and primary<br />

health care services, ambulatory services, acute care,<br />

sub-acute care, oral health, and mental health and<br />

specialised services (including offender health and<br />

alcohol and other drugs).<br />

including plastering demonstrations, ECG<br />

workshops, and APLS courses held in- house.<br />

WMHHS’s demographics are diverse and are<br />

comprised of four local government areas (LGAs) -<br />

Scenic Rim Regional Council, Lockyer Valley Regional<br />

Council, Somerset Regional Council and Ipswich City<br />

Council. Ipswich is the major city in the hospital and<br />

health service, with the townships of Esk, Laidley,<br />

Gatton, Boonah and Wacol spread throughout the<br />

area.<br />

The Ipswich Hospital is a major acute hospital with<br />

341 beds and offers services in all major health<br />

specialities, including anaesthetics, emergency<br />

medicine, geriatrics, rehabilitation, medicine, surgery,<br />

intensive and coronary care, orthopaedics, obstetrics,<br />

paediatrics, palliative care and rehabilitation along<br />

with a full range of allied health services.<br />
