We do not routinely have terms available in<br />

Anaesthetics at the Resident Medical Officer level,<br />

although from time to time individual terms may be<br />

negotiated.<br />

Specific terms at Coffs Harbour vary from year to<br />

year from a mixture of General Medicine, General<br />

Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Emergency. Most<br />

general medical and surgical terms also have a<br />

specific speciality component.<br />

BASIC INFORMATION<br />

Westmead Hospital is a 975 bed tertiary referral<br />

centre and trauma hospital. The hospital is a centre<br />

for clinical research in all major fields of medical<br />

practice and leads the way in areas such as urology,<br />

renal transplantation surgery, neonatology, cancer,<br />

immunology, allergy medicine, and cardiology. The<br />

NSW Government has also granted and planned<br />

a large expansion of Westmead Hospital to<br />

approximately 2000 beds in the next 5 years.<br />

Auburn Hospital is a 200 bed acute-care hospital.<br />

The hospital is about 20 minutes from Westmead<br />

by car, while the Auburn Railway Station, just over<br />

1km away, is a comfortable 15 minute walk to the<br />

Hospital.<br />

The Children’s Hospital is the major paediatric<br />

specialist hospital in NSW, delivering health care<br />

in all of the medical and surgical subspecialties,<br />

as well as providing diagnostic, paramedical and<br />

technical support services for neonates, children<br />

and adolescents.<br />

Lastly, Coffs Harbour Base Hospital is a 200 bed<br />

acute regional hospital within the North Coast Area<br />

Health Service. It is six hours by car from Westmead.<br />
