This work was quite extensive and very comp!ete, in which we received a valuable amount of assistance from the permanent lifemen’s association of Hingham, Mass. Eight hundred copies were distributed throughout New England to every city and town known to employ permanent men. A letter was read from Mr. Percy Bugbee, General Manager of the NFPA, advising of production of 16ram..film animated, cartoon in technicolor, produced in Hollywood, to be used on home fire prevention. After discussion, it was voted to "lay on the table" awaiting further information. The secretary repcrted on a disastrous fire at Westport, Mass., where a home was partialiy;Tdestroyed, but eight children and their mother lost their lives by suffocation. A midnight fire, the father and son were at work in a mill some distance away. A small town, with no fire alarm, had dispatched four tank trucks to the scene after re, .ceiving an alarm by telephone. The chief of the town lire d~epartment, Stanley E. Oilford, is a member of our association, stated that a fund to assist the family affected had been started. Briefly, this is the story of the Fire Chief, who adds: On motion of Chief Sanborn, the following resolution was unanimously adopted and made a part of these records. "May God, forbid that I ever be called upon to witness such a scene as met my eyes in that home where a line mother and eight of her dear children perished." On motion ’o.f Chief Graham, seconded by .Chief Slaman, it was voted to contribute $100.00 from our treasury to the Audette Fire Fund of Westport, Mass. On motion of the secretary, seconded ,by Director Dagan, East Hartford, Ct., it was voted that Honorary membership .be conferred upon Ex~Chief John S. Pachl of Annex Fire Dept., New Haven, Ct., who has been a member since June 20, 1923. Director Oliver T. Sanborn, Portland,-Maine, addressed* the meeting at some length, presenting information regarding the distribution and sale of flammable sprays or lacquers. These are being distributed from containers under pressure without proper labeling to indicate their hazardous nature. WHEREAS: The increase in the use .of flammable toiletries, cosmetics, and wear, ing apparel throughout New England,, with consequent injury and possible death to users of such products, is of growing concern to the Fire Service of New England~ and WHEREAS: Most recent of these products are various .brands of women’s wave sets and lacquers, which are found to be highly flammable and a hazard to life and property, and ~ WHEREAS: Many of these hazardous products are being sold by well-intentioned merchants, who are unaware of their dangerous properties, therefore be it RESOLVED: That the Board~ of Directors of the New England Association of Fire ’.Chiefs in con.ference assembled this ninth day of December, 19~2, does hereby strongly urge that all such products containing flammable materials be ,plainly labeled to indicate their hazardous nature, with appropriate warning to the purchaser on the safe use of same; and be it further RESOLVED: That the co-o.peration of all wholesale and retait merchants throughout New England ’be solicited to see that such flammable and/or explosive products, including hair treatments, etc., be appropriately labeled and that they be urged, not to
