NEW ENGLAND ASSOCIATION OF FIRE CHIEFS
CHIEF THOMAS: Mr. President, I should like to place in nomination the name
of Chief Francis Dagon of Ea’st Hartford, to be the State Vice~President from Connecticut.
PRESIDENT FOR-TIER:Gentlemen, you have heard the nomination of Francis
Dagon of East Hartford. Are there any further nominations?
Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED: That the nominations
be closed, and~ that the Secretary cast one ballot for the election of Francis Dagon of
East Hartford, to be the Vice-President from the State of Connecticut.
(The secretary cast the ballot, and the President declared Francis Dagon duly
elected as the Vice-President from the State of Connecticut; the Sergeant-at-Arms
then escorted him to the rostrum.)
PRESIDENT FORTIER: That completes the election of officers, gentlemen. _
The next item of bu’siness is,to set the salary of our Secretary-Treasurer. What
is your ,pleasure?

CHIEF KIMBALL: I move that the Secretary’s salary for next year be the same as
this year, $1,~00.00.
This motion was duly seconded by many of the members present and was carried.
PRESID~.N~ FORTIER: I have a few appointments to make, here.
As Sergeant-at-Arms, I reappoint William J. Dooling.
As Press Photographer, I reappoint Andrew P. Palmer of Woon~ocket.
As Technical Consultant, I reappoint Roi B. Woolley of New York.
As the official photographer, I reappoint Lieutenant Edward J. Carroll of Brookline.
As Chaplains, I appoint Reverend Michael Collins o.f Dorchester and Reverend
John P. Fit~simmons of Belmont. -
Now, just before we close our meeting, I see that Major Smith has come into the
hall here, and I am going to ask him to say a few words to you.
MAJOR JAMES BARKER SMITH: Mr. President and members of the New England
Association of Fire Chiefs. Your Sergeant-at-Arms has just conveyed to me the welcome
news that you will be back with us next year, which, of course, is about the happiest
information that I could get on this wonderful day.
I don’t think that I have to reiterate the close bond that we feel we have with the
Fire Chiefs.
But do you know it is interesting, the only way that I can tell that you have been
here for eight years is, of course, because you fellows lock exactly like you did seven
years ago, that my youngster is growing up. I can recall the first year thdt you were
here; they put him up on a table and put a Chief’s hat oh him; however, the hat still
fits!
I just want to say that it is a grand pleasure to have you with us. Your Conference
here is something that we always lock forward, to and I was very much interested the
ocher day, when I met a couple of Chiefs, ,sitting on the lower veranda, and one of
them said :
