SGA<br />
<strong>The</strong> Student Government Association is the voice and governing body of the students. All<br />
University of South Alabama students are members of SGA and are encouraged to get involved.<br />
Mission<br />
<strong>The</strong> University of South Alabama Student Government Association is committed to supporting<br />
and advocating for the interests of students through excellence and empowerment.<br />
Values<br />
<strong>The</strong> Student Government Association plans to continuously meet this mission through the<br />
commitment to four comprehensive values:<br />
• Experience: <strong>The</strong> Student Government Association is committed to improvement and<br />
excellence in all University efforts & experiences.<br />
• Diversity: <strong>The</strong> Student Government Association is committed to fostering an<br />
environment of diversity and inclusion.<br />
• Representation: <strong>The</strong> Student Government Association is committed to advocating for<br />
the needs and interests of students in all areas of the University.<br />
• Integrity: <strong>The</strong> Student Government Association is committed to high ethical standards<br />
and integrity in all actions and processes.<br />
Branches of SGA<br />
<strong>The</strong> Executive Branch is responsible for upholding the SGA Constitution, carrying out the<br />
policies of SGA, and enforcing the laws of SGA. <strong>The</strong> officers of the Executive Branch are the<br />
President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Attorney General. All of the officers of the Executive<br />
Branch are elected by the student body.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Judicial Branch is responsible for interpreting the SGA Constitution and all laws passed by<br />
SGA. In addition, the Judicial Branch hears student disciplinary cases as requested by the Dean<br />
of Students. <strong>The</strong> Judicial Branch is comprised of the SGA Chief Justice and 12 Associate Justices.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Chief Justice presides over the Supreme Court, whose membership is comprised of the<br />
Associate Justices. <strong>The</strong> Chief Justice is elected by the student body, and the President appoints<br />
Associate Justices with the approval of the Senate.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Legislative Branch formulates SGA policy in accordance with the Constitution and<br />
provides a forum for discussion and input every Monday night in the Student Center open to all<br />
students. <strong>The</strong> Senate is composed of students elected from every college and school proportional<br />
to student enrollment. <strong>The</strong> Senate elects a President Pro-Tem from within its membership<br />
who supervises the Senate Committees and presides over the Senate in the absence of the Vice<br />
President.<br />
SGA Committees<br />
<strong>The</strong> Rules Committee attends to internal rules and regulations of the Senate including<br />
attendance and committee requirements of all Senators. This committee is only open to Senators.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Appropriations Committee oversees and administers the fund allocation process to<br />
non Student Government Association entities including student organizations and University<br />
