4.3 Upon receiving the council’s recommendation, the Senate may then accept, reject or<br />
modify the punishment. Implementation of punishment requires a majority vote of<br />
Senators at the meeting.<br />
4.4 If the official is removed from office, that official shall immediately lose all titles,<br />
offices and other privileges of the office or position from which he or she has been<br />
removed. In such cases the Supreme Court shall call a special election to fill the<br />
vacancy, or the vacancy will be filled by appointment according to Section 7, Article<br />
VI. An official removed from office shall be ineligible for any office or position in the<br />
Student Government Association.<br />
ARTICLE X – ELECTIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS FOR OFFICERS<br />
Section 1 – Elections<br />
1.1 Spring semester elections shall be held during the first week of April. <strong>The</strong> date will be<br />
designated by the Supreme Court and announced one month in advance.<br />
1.2 All officers, senators, and other elected students will be elected during the Spring<br />
semester elections.<br />
Section 2 – Academic Qualifications for Running for and Holding Office<br />
2.1 All candidates for office, whether elected or appointed, must HAVE and MAINTAIN a<br />
cumulative GPA as stipulate for the office.<br />
2.2 Minimum cumulative GPA for offices will be as follows:<br />
President 2.5<br />
Vice President 2.5<br />
Treasurer 2.5<br />
Chief Justice 2.5<br />
Attorney General 2.5<br />
Associate Justice 2.5<br />
Student at Large 2.0<br />
Senate Clerk 2.0<br />
Senators 2.0<br />
2.3 A person holding an office, who falls below the stipulated GPA listed in 2.2 for one<br />
semester, will relinquish all powers and privileges of that office.<br />
2.4 Should a person holding such an office be placed on academic probation, he or she<br />
must relinquish all powers and privileges of that office.<br />
Section 3 – Class Standing Qualifications for Office<br />
3.1 All candidates for President, Vice President, Treasurer, Chief Justice, Attorney<br />
General, or members of the University Traffic and Parking Committee must have<br />
successfully completed at least 44 hours at the University of South Alabama and<br />
must be a regularly enrolled student.<br />
3.2 All candidates for student senate positions must be enrolled in that college.<br />
