Est. 2006 Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy
The Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy consists of Early
Childhood through fifth grade and includes both regular-education students
and students with special needs. The mission of the school is to accelerate the
learning of all students through data-driven inquiry, reflective teaching, and
powerful learning.
The Accelerated Learning Academy model is specifically designed to help
all students reach their full potential by focusing on their strengths as
learners, challenging them at appropriate levels, recognizing their unique
needs, and supporting them in learning areas that are challenging for them.
This is a model that is intended to enhance classroom instruction for all
students through the use of enrichment activities, hands-on experiences,
active learning, problem solving, and independent research. In accelerated
schools, the best of what we know about education, that which is usually
reserved for gifted and talented students, is shared with all students. Members
of the community work together to transform every classroom into a
powerful learning environment where students and teachers are encouraged
to think creatively and explore their interests, and where they are given the
capacity and encouragement to achieve at high levels. Accelerated schools
seek out, acknowledge, and build on every child’s natural curiosity,
encouraging students to construct knowledge through exploration and
discovery, and to see connections between school activities and their lives
outside the classroom.
