“The Distinguished Dozen: Twelve Books that Shaped the Face <strong>of</strong> <strong>Family</strong> Medicine”- Features 12<br />

<strong>of</strong> the most influential works in <strong>Family</strong> Medicine history, together with a discussion <strong>of</strong> their impact<br />

and authors. (1 box)<br />

“From the Doctor’s Bag: The Tools <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Family</strong> Physician, Past & Present”- Presents a <strong>collection</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> various medical instruments together with a discussion <strong>of</strong> their uses. (2 boxes)<br />

“A Gallery <strong>of</strong> <strong>Family</strong> Medicine Symbology, Past & Present”- Taken from the <strong>collection</strong> <strong>of</strong> framed<br />

items donated by STFM from the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> former Executive Director Roger Sherwood, this exhibit<br />

presents and discusses some <strong>of</strong> the many symbols which have been used by <strong>Family</strong> Medicine<br />

organizations throughout the years. (1 box)<br />

“The GP’s Library: A Glimpse Into Early 20 th Century Medicine” - This exhibit showcases and<br />

presents materials that were found in a typical GP’s library during the early 20 th Century. Two<br />

different versions <strong>of</strong> the exhibit have been prepared: one based on the <strong>collection</strong>s <strong>of</strong> Dr. John O.<br />

Baeke, a practicing GP in Overland Park, Kansas during the 1950s through 1980s (2 boxes), and<br />

materials from the library <strong>of</strong> GP Waddy P. Tate, M.D. <strong>of</strong> St. Louis. (4 boxes) (6 boxes total)<br />

“Lynn Carmichael, MD: A Tribute”- Features a tribute to the remarkable life and achievements <strong>of</strong><br />

an early pioneer in the specialty and the first President <strong>of</strong> the Society <strong>of</strong> Teachers <strong>of</strong> <strong>Family</strong> Medicine<br />

(STFM), Dr. Lynn P. Carmichael (1928-2009). (1 trifold display)<br />

“Past Headquarters Buildings <strong>of</strong> the AAFP”- A small gallery exhibit featuring materials drawn<br />

from the Center’s <strong>collection</strong>s on the history <strong>of</strong> the past headquarters <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Academy</strong>. (1 box)<br />

"<strong>Physicians</strong> With Heart: A Tribute"- This exhibit, detailing the history <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Physicians</strong> with Heart<br />

airlift, was originally produced in 2006 and has recently been updated to honor their 20 th anniversary<br />

airlift in 2011. (1 box, 1 trifold display)<br />

“What Is It?”- This exhibit features early medical equipment and <strong>of</strong>fers visitors a “quiz” which<br />

challenges them to identify the items. Two versions <strong>of</strong> this exhibit are available for display. (2<br />
