was the last living charter member <strong>of</strong> the TAFP when he died in 2007. The Texas academy has<br />

established the S. Perry Post, MD, Medical Student Scholarship Fund in his honor.<br />

The S. Perry Post, M.D. <strong>collection</strong> consists his original AAGP membership certificate (issued May 1,<br />

1948), and his Century Club certificate from 1950. Post also donated similar items on behalf <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Academy</strong> member Terry S. Vincent, M.D., which are part <strong>of</strong> this <strong>collection</strong>. One notable file<br />

pertains to the organization <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Family</strong> Practice Student Association at the University <strong>of</strong> Texas<br />

Medical School in San Antonio in 1971. The <strong>collection</strong> also contains files and photos related to the<br />

Texas chapter’s program called “Physician <strong>of</strong> the Day” for the Texas Legislature. Also included are<br />

items from the early years <strong>of</strong> both the AAGP and TAGP, including medical study report forms,<br />

membership directories, constitution and bylaws, banquet programs, and some early issues <strong>of</strong> Texas<br />

chapter newsletters. These include materials from the Alamo Chapter <strong>of</strong> the Texas AGP and the<br />

Bexar County (TX) <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> General Practice.<br />

Price, James G., M.D. (1926-2009)<br />

Born in Brush, Colorado in 1926, James Gordon Price, M.D. received his B.A. degree in 1948 and<br />

his M.D. in 1951, both from the University <strong>of</strong> Colorado. After completing an internship at the<br />

Denver General Hospital in 1952, Dr. Price returned to Brush, where he established a general<br />

practice which served the local community from 1952 to 1978. In 1978, Dr. Price moved to Kansas,<br />

where he served as a pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Family</strong> Practice at the University <strong>of</strong> Kansas Medical Center from<br />

1978 to 1993, and also as chairman <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>Family</strong> Practice from 1982 to 1990, and as<br />

dean <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> Kansas School <strong>of</strong> Medicine from 1990 to 1993. From 1973 to 1990, Dr.<br />

Price also authored a nationally syndicated newspaper column entitled “Your <strong>Family</strong> Physician.” In<br />

addition to his pr<strong>of</strong>essional positions, Dr. Price was also an active leader in several <strong>Family</strong> Medicine<br />

organizations. In 1964, he served as president <strong>of</strong> the Colorado <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Physicians</strong>, and<br />

then on the national level, served as vice-speaker (1967-1968) and Speaker (1969-1972) <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>Academy</strong>’s House <strong>of</strong> Delegates, and as president <strong>of</strong> the AAFP from 1973 to 1974. From 1979 to<br />

1980, he also served as president <strong>of</strong> the ABFP (now ABFM). In 1988, the <strong>Academy</strong> honored Dr.<br />

Price by presenting him with the Thomas W. Johnson Award for Outstanding Contributions to<br />

<strong>Family</strong> Practice Education. Dr. Price died on October 17, 2009 at the age <strong>of</strong> 83.<br />

The James G. Price, M.D. Collection is comprised <strong>of</strong> a <strong>collection</strong> <strong>of</strong> Dr. Price’s writings and<br />

speeches, including a manuscript and copies <strong>of</strong> his small book “A Manual For Presiding Officers at<br />

Annual Business Meetings,” written c. 1973; a copy <strong>of</strong> a statement made before the FDA Cardio-<br />

Renal Advisory Committee on May 11, 1976; and galley pro<strong>of</strong>s, clippings, typewritten carbons,<br />

word processed versions and a handwritten version <strong>of</strong> his “Your <strong>Family</strong> Physician” newspaper<br />

column, together with correspondence relating to its syndication. Also included in the <strong>collection</strong> is a<br />
