Dr. Higgins’ <strong>collection</strong> primarily contains correspondence, speeches and other materials relating to<br />

his service as chairman <strong>of</strong> the Board <strong>of</strong> Directors (1982-1983), president-elect (1983-1984),<br />

president (1984-1985) and immediate past president (1985-1986) <strong>of</strong> the AAFP.<br />

Richard C. Inskip, M.D. was born in 1937 in Amityville, New York. He attended medical school at<br />

Temple University, earning his M.D. in 1964, and completed an internship at Harrisburg (PA)<br />

Polyclinic Hospital, 1964-1965. Following that, he served the U.S. Air Force as a captain until 1967,<br />

at which time he went into group family practice in Reno, Nevada. During the course <strong>of</strong> his career,<br />

Dr. Inskip was elected president <strong>of</strong> several medical organizations, including the Washoe County<br />

Medical Society, the Nevada State Medical Association, the AAFP (from 1985 to 1986), and the<br />

AAFP Foundation (1994-1995), as well as serving on the boards or executive committees <strong>of</strong> many<br />

organizations. In addition to his term as president, his service to the AAFP also included tenures as<br />

vice speaker, speaker, president-elect, and past president <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Academy</strong>.<br />

The Richard C. Inskip, M.D. Collection contains files beginning with Dr. Inskip’s service as Vice<br />

speaker (1980) through his term as AAFP past president in 1986-1987. The files represent<br />

correspondence with AAFP members and staff, travel reports, and special concerns directed at the<br />

AAFP Congress <strong>of</strong> Delegates. Also included are files related to health care for military dependents<br />

and second surgical opinion eligible provider listings. His <strong>collection</strong> also includes 7 audiocassettes.<br />

Jones, Edgar F., Jr., M.D. (1912-1999)<br />

Edgar F. Jones, Jr., M.D. was born in 1912 in Belleville, Arkansas. He earned his M.D. from the<br />

University <strong>of</strong> Texas at Galveston in 1936, and later practiced in Galveston. During World War II, he<br />

served in the US Army as a medical <strong>of</strong>ficer. He was named a fellow <strong>of</strong> the AAFP in 1972, and died<br />

in 1999 in Austin, Texas.<br />

Dr. Jones’ <strong>collection</strong> consists <strong>of</strong> a scrapbook titled “Galveston 1957 County Medical Society.” In it,<br />

there are numerous newspaper clippings, invitations and programs related to the Galveston County<br />

Medical Society. Dr. Jones was elected president-elect <strong>of</strong> that group in 1957. The scrapbook also<br />

documents the county medical society’s efforts to provide polio immunizations for every county<br />

resident.<br />
