Photograph materials (posters, prints, blueprints, etc.) and as Photographs.<br />

e). Photographs- The Photograph Collection contains approximately 25,000 photographs [as <strong>of</strong> July<br />

1, 2012] on a variety <strong>of</strong> subjects relating to the history <strong>of</strong> family medicine. Copies <strong>of</strong> photographic<br />

prints may be requested from most <strong>of</strong> the photos in our <strong>collection</strong> at a cost. (For more details on<br />

prices for reproductions and services, please see Appendix 3.) The Photograph Collection is also<br />

subdivided into two major categories: regular-size photographs, negatives and extra prints, which are<br />

located in acid-free (tan) archival boxes in the Center; and Oversized original photographs, which are<br />

located within the oversized flat file in the Center. Both regular-size and oversized photographs are<br />

indexed and arranged under the Center’s uniform subject headings. (Note: at present, all individual<br />

photographs have not yet been inventoried, but the subjects under which they are contained have<br />

been listed for purposes <strong>of</strong> this Catalog. For more details, see the Photographic Collections section<br />

later in this Guide.)<br />

2). LIBRARY COLLECTION<br />

The Library Collection contains over 600 volumes [as <strong>of</strong> July 1, 2012] on the following subjects:<br />

a.) Books by or about family medicine or family physicians;<br />

b.) General works on the history <strong>of</strong> <strong>American</strong> medicine; and<br />

c.) General reference works.<br />

Books within the Library Collection are organized and subdivided into three categories: books in the<br />

Main Collection; Rare Collection (classified as such due to their age, value or if signed by the author<br />

or presenter); and the Reference Collection.<br />

In addition, the Library Collection also includes periodicals as well as more than 1,400 [as <strong>of</strong> July 1,<br />

2012] individual reference (clip) files containing extracted and photocopied materials on a variety <strong>of</strong><br />

subjects related to family medicine. These files are classified and arranged under the same uniform<br />

subject headings as are used for the Archives Collection (see Appendix 1 for more details on the<br />

uniform subject headings).<br />

3). MUSEUM COLLECTION<br />

The Center’s Museum Collection consists <strong>of</strong> artifacts or other three-dimensional objects, textiles,<br />

and framed or other exhibit materials that are <strong>of</strong> value in interpreting the history <strong>of</strong> family medicine<br />

in the United States or that are <strong>of</strong> value for use in permanent or temporary exhibits on the history <strong>of</strong><br />
