Dr. Tsou’s <strong>collection</strong> consists <strong>of</strong> material relating to her membership in the AMA in 1985; and her<br />

correspondence files as assistant director <strong>of</strong> the AAFP Education Division from April 1988 through<br />

John M. Tudor, Jr., M.D., <strong>of</strong> East Falmouth, Massachusetts, was born in 1938 in Pine Bluff,<br />

Arkansas. He earned his M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1964, and then he completed a<br />

rotating internship at King County Hospital in Seattle, Washington. His residency training included<br />

an internal medicine residency at the University <strong>of</strong> Washington Hospitals in Seattle (1965-66), and a<br />

family practice residency at the University <strong>of</strong> Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital under Lynn<br />

Carmichael (1968-69). In between his residencies, he served as a captain in the Air Force at the<br />

dispensary at Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. Tudor entered academia immediately<br />

upon completion <strong>of</strong> his residency in Miami. He became assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor at the Department <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Family</strong> and Community Medicine at the University <strong>of</strong> Arkansas. He also served as associate<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essor and acting chairman during his tenure there, 1969-1977. During a leave <strong>of</strong> absence from<br />

his position in Arkansas, he was a fellow at Michigan State University, earning an M.A. in Higher<br />

Education & Administration. In 1977, he became associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor at the Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>Family</strong><br />

and Community Medicine at the University <strong>of</strong> Utah. He also served as Chairman <strong>of</strong> the Division <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Family</strong> Medicine and Director <strong>of</strong> the family practice residency there. In 1980, he entered private<br />

practice while remaining clinical associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor with the department. In 1981-1982, he served<br />

as president <strong>of</strong> the Utah <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Physicians</strong>. From 1988-1991, he served on the AAFP<br />

Board <strong>of</strong> Directors, including as chairman from 1990-1991. He was AAFP President, 1992-1993. In<br />

2004, he moved to East Falmouth, Massachusetts, where he remains in private practice.<br />

The John M. Tudor, Jr., M.D. Collection encompasses 44 boxes, and includes a wide variety <strong>of</strong><br />

materials. Included are files from his education and training, his academic careers at the Universities<br />

<strong>of</strong> Arkansas and Utah, and his private practice files. Another large group <strong>of</strong> documents pertains to<br />

his service on the AAFP Board <strong>of</strong> Directors, his presidential campaign, and his time as presidentelect,<br />

president, and past president <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Academy</strong>, including media clippings and interviews. A<br />

special subset <strong>of</strong> materials from his <strong>Academy</strong> service includes files related to health care reform,<br />

since Dr. Tudor was AAFP President during a significant period when the AAFP was plugging its<br />

“Rx for Health” access plan. Also related to his <strong>Academy</strong> service are three boxes on the<br />

AMA/Specialty Society Relative Value Update Committee. There are also files from his first decade<br />

as a member <strong>of</strong> STFM, and committee member in that organization, as well as files related to his<br />

membership in the Utah <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Physicians</strong>. Materials <strong>of</strong> a more general nature include:<br />

miscellaneous correspondence, expert witness case files, publications/published articles, speeches,<br />

research notes/papers in preparation, and daily planners.<br />
