The Boyd E. McCracken, M.D. Collection is comprised <strong>of</strong> 1 volume <strong>of</strong> material compiled by Dr.<br />

McCracken in scrapbook form, and includes materials from his various campaigns for <strong>of</strong>fice within<br />

the AAFP; newspaper and magazine articles and correspondence relating to Dr. McCracken’s career;<br />

a photograph <strong>of</strong> Dr. McCracken (c. 1977) with Drs. Robert Young and Jack Stelmach; and Dr.<br />

McCracken’s curriculum vitae, dated 2001.<br />

Robert David McGinnis, M.D. was born in 1924 in Ohio. He graduated from the University <strong>of</strong><br />

Illinois Medical School in 1948 and interned at the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara,<br />

California. From 1956 to 1995, he was a solo family practitioner in Santa Barbara and from 1988 to<br />

1997 was Associate Medical Director <strong>of</strong> the Monarch Plan. In 1966, he founded the Goleta Valley<br />

Community Hospital, which was the first general practice-oriented hospital in Santa Barbara, serving<br />

as its chief <strong>of</strong> staff from 1967 to 1969 and as a member <strong>of</strong> the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees from 1967 to 1997.<br />

Dr. McGinnis was also an active member <strong>of</strong> both the California AFP and the AAFP, serving as<br />

President <strong>of</strong> the California AFP in 1974, as a member <strong>of</strong> the AAFP Board <strong>of</strong> Directors from 1982 to<br />

1985, and as Chairman <strong>of</strong> the AAFP Board from 1984 to 1985. In 2001, the Goleta Valley Cottage<br />

Hospital honored Dr. McGinnis by naming its Medical/Surgical unit in his honor.<br />

The Robert D. McGinnis, M.D. Collection contains correspondence, minutes and reports primarily<br />

centering around his term as a member <strong>of</strong> the AAFP Board <strong>of</strong> Directors from 1982 to 1984. In<br />

addition, the <strong>collection</strong> also contains a program from the Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital’s 2001<br />

Founders’ Celebration which honored Dr. McGinnis.<br />

McKay, Haden Edwards, M.D. (1908-1996)<br />

The son and grandson <strong>of</strong> physicians, Haden Edwards McKay, Jr., M.D. was born in Bardstown,<br />

Kentucky in 1908 and moved to Humble, Texas, in 1919 with his family. After earning a bachelor’s<br />

degree from Mississippi State University and his medical degree from Chicago Medical School, Dr.<br />

McKay returned to Humble and went into general practice with his father in 1938. Following service<br />

in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II, he returned to Humble. An active member <strong>of</strong><br />

the local community, Dr. McKay served for 13 years as a Humble City Councilman before being<br />

elected Mayor <strong>of</strong> Humble in 1971, in which <strong>of</strong>fice he served for 24 years before retiring in 1995. He<br />

also served in top executive posts in county, state and national medical associations throughout his<br />

career. He was a past president <strong>of</strong> the Texas <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Family</strong> Practice, and in 1979 was named<br />
