Raymond Owen West, M.D. was born in 1922 and graduated from the Loma Linda University<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Medicine in Loma Linda, California in 1951. He taught for many years as pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Family</strong> Medicine and Epidemiology at Loma Linda University, and is now retired from that position.<br />

Presently he is a free-lance writer and medical columnist.<br />

The Raymond O. West, M.D. Collection contains copies <strong>of</strong> <strong>Family</strong> Practice Today, a publication<br />

which was edited by Dr. West while a pr<strong>of</strong>essor at Loma Linda University. The <strong>collection</strong> includes<br />

issues Vol. II, No. 11 (November 1979) through Vol. IV, No. 6 (June 1981), inclusive.<br />

George T. Wolff, M.D. was born in 1925 in Greensboro, North Carolina. He earned his M.D. from<br />

Jefferson Medical College in 1952, and completed a rotating internship at North Carolina Memorial<br />

Hospital in Chapel Hill. Following that, he completed two residencies in general practice – the first<br />

at City Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem, the second at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in<br />

Greensboro. After his residencies, he entered private practice in Greensboro from 1955-1975. He<br />

became the director <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Family</strong> Practice Residency Program at the Moses H. Cone Memorial<br />

Hospital in 1975, and since that time, has alternated private practice with academic duties at Moses<br />

H. Cone as well as Duke University and the University <strong>of</strong> North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Wolff<br />

served on the board <strong>of</strong> the North Carolina <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Physicians</strong> (NCAFP), and was vice<br />

president and president <strong>of</strong> the NCAFP from 1966-1967. He also edited the Tar Heel Practitioner<br />

and edited and compiled two anniversary publications for the North Carolina chapter. On the<br />

national level, his service in the AAFP included tenures as a delegate from North Carolina, a member<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Board <strong>of</strong> Directors from 1974-1977, and as AAFP vice President (1977-1978) and treasurer<br />

(1979-1983). Dr. Wolff has received many awards, including the AAFP Award <strong>of</strong> Merit (1984) and<br />

North Carolina <strong>Family</strong> Physician <strong>of</strong> the Year Award (1985). A George T. Wolff Award was<br />

established by the UNC Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>Family</strong> Medicine in 1985, and a George T. Wolff, MD<br />

Primary Care Symposium was held annually from 1995-2003.<br />

Dr. Wolff’s <strong>collection</strong> includes materials related to his AAFP service, such as his 1983 Oral Report<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Treasurer to the AAFP Congress <strong>of</strong> Delegates, AAFP stationery dated 1974-1982 (including<br />

“joke” letterhead using board members’ and <strong>of</strong>ficers’ middle names), and Histories <strong>of</strong> the AAFP<br />

Board <strong>of</strong> Directors. There are some miscellaneous articles and correspondence about Dr. Wolff and<br />

AAFP activities. A copy <strong>of</strong> the 1978 report <strong>of</strong> the National Commission on Families and Public<br />

Policies is also included in his <strong>collection</strong>. Some materials have been separated from the core<br />
