Hover stability can be obtained by putting <strong>the</strong> hull above <strong>the</strong> rotor. This causes<br />

enormous practical difficulties and it is usually better to accept <strong>the</strong> hover instability.<br />

However, Stanley Hiller designed a number <strong>of</strong> one-man helicopters (Figure 8.17) in<br />

which <strong>the</strong> pilot was above <strong>the</strong> shrouded rotor assembly and <strong>the</strong>se were very stable.<br />

A machine built by DeLackner had <strong>the</strong> same attributes.
