This piece is dedicated in memory to Brooke Ashley Pomroy who died
on November 24, 2004. She was driving home and swerved for an
unknown reason and hit a semi head on. There was no alcohol involved,
and no one knows quite what happened. All I know is that we love you,
Brooke, and we will miss you immensely. Rest in Peace, Brooke...
Brooke
In our fading photographs, locked in our memories, everybody wore a
smile. We weren’t all happy then, but we had no reason not to be. And
this hit us, halted our careless behaviour, for what may be one brief
moment.
Thoughts of her dance across our demented minds.
Her shining smile will smile… nevermore.
We will never be the same,
Think the same,
Breathe the same
And it frightens us.
The blackness has found us
Has stained our lives
And will continue to forever.
We never knew that our careless thoughts would lead to anything at all.
We never thought that it mattered or even made a difference. We
believed that we could continue to act this way forever and remain
invincible. But we are not invincible. We found this out all too soon and
all too late.
I am thinking that, maybe, if there is a God, then this is a punishment. He
caught a glimpse that we were forgetting what is important, and He sent
us a bombshell so we would remember. Well, we remember. We are
learning things that we never imagined. I'd rather not learn at all, to tell
you the truth.
Brooke, you were so young, so beautiful, and you will always remain
that way.
I knew you just a moment, but the frozen memories will always stay.
You never knew you would change us all…
