Life and basketball
Basketball is a well-devised sport
Though it only requires a ball and a court
Its immediate aspect may not do the trick
But the lessons it offers make it a ‘first draft pick’
The short cuts you take are never enough
Just count the times the game got rough
No matter what, your efforts fall short
And pride will keep you from mastering the court
Basketball is nothing but a talent test
Take the chance, live the dream and do your best
Don’t move too fast, its music won’t fade
Train a little, win a little: fair trade
Life is a mystery, a test, or bliss
The name won’t stop it from being what it is
Its immediate aspect may not do the trick
But the lessons it offers won’t give you a pick
The long years you wait are never enough
To learn all the lessons when times get rough
No matter what, your efforts fall short
And pride is the crutch of your weak port
But there is that one and only choice
The truth of life, the Savior’s voice
He died for you, He played the part
He’s there right now…outside your heart.
Life and basketball are the same I guess
Take the chance, live the dream and do your best
The music of life will ultimately fade
But give your heart, take His love: priceless trade.
