Wedding ceremonies in Oman Oman is a beautiful country and it has many customs which are still practiced by Omanis until now. One example of these customs is a wedding. Each region in Oman has its own ways of wedding celebration but at the same time there are common similarities between these regions. The celebrations usually start on Thursday. All the relatives of the groom and the bride gather together during the celebration days. During these days they tend to be very attractive. They wear traditional clothes. The men wear dishdashas and turbans with khanjars (traditional dresses). They also hold sticks which are used in dancing. Old people are interested in traditional songs more than modern ones, unlike young people. On the other hand, the women are very interested in their clothes. They have special decorations and designs with a lot of attractive colours. Women wear silver and gold jewellery with henna (designs) on their hands and feet. The most interesting thing is the smell of the incense and perfumes. It's really wonderful. I like it very much. Moreover, the men take care of the groom's clothes, perfumes and other things he might need. The women do the same for the bride. They also sit together and sing very nice songs when putting henna on the bride. During that time, some other women cook a special meal made of meat and rice. They also have the Omani halwa (sweet) with coffee. Many guests are invited to join the wedding celebrations and to have the feast. I think it is a very nice thing when all those people be together, sharing the happy moment, and eating the same food. It can strengthen the good relations between them. Finally, I think it's very important to keep on with these customs because they make our lives very interesting.
