THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA • 2003
GENERAL INFORMATION
STATE AUTHORITY
tiating the exchange of goods and services is to check the business abilities of possible business partners. Due
to the requests for information of this kind, daily submitted to the Chamber from all over the world, the CCE
has developed a system of financial reliability reports on Croatian companies.
International Business Networks ∑ Since the first contacts in international business are established through
chambers, the CCE has, as a member of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) from Paris, been submitting
its proposals to gather the chambers in a computer network that would accelerate the of information flow
and encourage world trade development. The CCE has been participating in the activities of the Working Group
for the Establishment of a World Chambers Business Network (www.worldchambers.com), founded within the
ICC in 1993. The network was set up on the Internet 1995 and since then 10,700 world chambers have joined
the system. The network is particularly important to small and medium-sized enterprises, especially to those
that lack own strategic ideas, financial assets or professionals needed for significant achievements in the world
market. It is an integrated part of the development strategy of eight most developed countries in the world
(G8) within the “Information society” and “Market Place for SME-s” programs. The chambers from Central
European countries have also developed their own computer network (www.ceen.com), which provides basic
information on a particular country (its political situation, economic policy, economic structure, information
on investments and exports, financial reliability, etc.).
Besides those on the supply and demand of goods and services, the data used for country-specific market
research for a specific product are of great value (Market’s Briefs). The chamber of an exporting country collects
the data about the following: manufacture, import and export, main suppliers, import destinations, market
peculiarities, customers’ demands, conditions for getting into the market (customs and other documentation),
prices, distribution channels, terms of delivery, the way of collecting outstanding debts, packaging and
labeling of goods, product promotion (media, fairs), useful addresses (the largest manufacturers, retailers,
importers, exporters etc.).
A report is drawn up in accordance with the ITC (International Trade Center) UNCTAD/GATT structure. The CCE
has also initiated the process of trade expansion between former Yugoslav countries. In order to accelerate
information flow in the region, the CCE will set up a computer network the sponsors of which will be the chambers
of these countries.
