GENERAL INFORMATION
The Ombudsman is the person authorized by the Croatian Parliament to protect the constitutional and legal
rights of citizens in proceedings before state administration and bodies with public authority. The ombudsman
is elected by the Croatian Parliament for a term of eight years.
The conditions for the election and approval of the conduct, scope and manner of the work of the ombudsman
and his deputies are defined by the law.
The ombudsman ensures the protection of constitutional and legal rights of citizens in proceedings conducted
in the Ministry of Defense, armed forces and security services, protection of citizens’ rights before local
and regional self-government bodies, protection of the right to local and regional self-government, as well as
before state government bodies.
The President of the Croatian Parliament, temporarily acting as Deputy President of the Republic of Croatia,
passed the Resolution on Holding the Election for the House of Representatives of the Croatian Parliament. The
election was held on 3 January 2000 at polling stations in the Republic of Croatia.
