GENERAL INFORMATION STATE AUTHORITY ECONOMY CULTURE SPORTS ADDRESSES CROATIAN SPECIALTIES Training in Internet Technologies ∑ Significant progress in the use of information technologies, particularly the Internet, is not possible without training the members or without trained executive staff. The chamber provides basic and supplementary training on the advantages of the Internet, the need to introduce e-business as well as on the role of business entities, the Chamber and the Government in the preparative work for the introduction of new technologies. Business Information Department ∑ Wishing to satisfy all the requests for information on the Croatian economy, the Chamber has set up its own web-site and the Business Information Department, which promptly and efficiently provides all the information needed. Business and Information Services ∑ The Croatian Chamber of Economy has a precise and comprehensive member database, which is regularly updated owing to the Chamber’s high-quality and modern information infrastructure. The database includes a business register, a goods and services file, a performance file and an export and import file. The data is classified in accordance with global and European standards. The Internet site of the Croatian Chamber of Economy presents the Chamber’s structure and activities, as well as the following business services: • Register of Croatian Companies The business register contains the company number, corporate name, address, county, municipality, professional association, business activity, contact details (phone, fax, telex, e-mail), size, capital origin, ownership structure, responsible persons and number of employees. • Supply and Demand of Goods and Services This service is designed to facilitate contacts between possible business partners and the enhancement of commodity and other types of exchange in Croatia and the world. • Supply and Demand of Waste Materials The Waste Materials Exchange supplies purchase and sale information, waste processing methods, technologies and facilities. The Croatian Chamber of Economy is an active member of the following working groups: the World Chambers Network (http://www.worldchambers.com), the business network of the Central European Initiative (http://www.ceen.com), the Alpe-Adria Chambers network (http://www.alpeadria.org). 103
THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA • 2003 GENERAL INFORMATION STATE AUTHORITY BizNet ∑ The Croatian Chamber of Economy has launched the BizNet system, which will enable Croatian business people to gain quick and simple access to business information and the member database via the Internet. In addition, BizNet includes a database containing economic legal framework, as well as the statistical data on the Croatian economy grouped by activities and at macroeconomic level in the past couple of years. The BizNet system is a response of the Croatian Chamber of Economy to the challenges of the New economy and e-Business. Publishing The Public Relations and Publishing Office operates within the President’s Office. It prepares information, reports, briefings and press conferences on a daily basis. The office library possesses about 6,000 volumes on important issues related to the economy. The department officers continually cover all economic sectors and their meetings. Their reports are publicized on the CCE web-site, in the CCE Info newsletters and the releases of the Croatian News Agency and other media. The Croatian Chamber of Economy newsletters - the CCE Info biweekly, departmental excerpts, flyers, brochures, manuals and books - are regularly released and they contain information about the most important activities of the CCE and the county chambers, the international activities of the Headquarters and the county chambers as well as about the trends in the Croatian economy. The department also informs about the activities of CCE members, announces and presents trade fairs in Croatia and abroad. In cooperation with the representative office in Brussels, it also publicizes business news from the EU. ECONOMY CULTURE SPORTS ADDRESSES CROATIAN SPECIALTIES Business Education Business education within the CCE includes organizing seminars and lectures for company managers as well as professional improvement and training for the CCE employees. The CCE performs these activities independently and in cooperation with foreign chambers, Croatian universities and institutions, trade offices and embassies. The topics covered are company management (marketing, company organization, financing etc.), introduction of quality in business titled ISO Forum Croaticum, business communications, scheduling, rhetoric skills etc. It also organizes lectures on various topical economic issues. The CCE pays special attention to the cooperation with students’ associations by supporting various meetings, facilitating contacts with companies and organizing lectures by CCE experts.
