Croatia has a unicameral parliament, the Sabor. The representatives are elected for a 4 year period.<br />

CROATIAN PARLIAMENT The Croatian Parliament is the representative body of the citizens and the<br />

holder of legislative authority in the Republic of Croatia. (The Croatian word Sabor is a synonym for meeting,<br />

assembly, parliament or the highest representative body, which has been in use in Croatian constitutional history<br />

since the 9th century and has persisted down to the present day).<br />

The Croatian Parliament has a minimum of 100 and a maximum of 160 representatives, who are directly elected<br />

by secret vote, based on universal and equal suffrage. The representatives of the Croatian Parliament are<br />

elected for a term of four years.<br />

The Croatian Parliament:<br />

• decides on the adoption and amendment of the Constitution,<br />

• passes laws,<br />

• adopts the state budget,<br />

• declares the state of war or peace,<br />

• passes by-laws which articulate the policy of the Croatian Parliament,<br />

• adopts the Strategy of National Security and the Strategy of Defense of the Republic of Croatia,<br />

• decides on changes to the borders of the Republic of Croatia,<br />

• calls referendums,<br />

• carries out elections, appointments and approvals of conduct, in accordance with the Constitution and the law,<br />

• supervises the work of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and other holders of public duties, responsible<br />

to the Croatian Parliament, in accordance with the Constitution and the law,<br />

• grants amnesty for criminal offences,<br />

• performs other tasks prescribed by the Constitution.
