GENERAL INFORMATION

Within the framework of the Croatian Chamber of Economy, the Union of Ship Equipment Producers is active,
bringing together about 200 ship equipment producers that fully meet international shipbuilding standards.
The modern Croatian shipbuilding industry has been present in the world market for almost half a century
and works almost exclusively for foreign shippers. It is oriented towards production according to customers
requirements, which makes each ship or series a unique product, and which has ensured the Croatian shipbuilding
industry an enviable reputation among ship owners, as well as numerous awards from nautical circles
around the world.
From the aspect of foreign trade as well as the economic strategy of the Croatian Government, shipbuilding
is one of the most important lines of Croatian industry. The shipbuilding industry has about 10 percent share
in exports and about 2 percent share in imports in the commodity exchange with foreign countries.
The export of shipbuilding operations (classified as non-commodity export) also contributes to the foreigntrade
balance of shipbuilding industries.
A growth of the shipbuilding industry’s share in GDP is expected in the coming years, because the order ledger
is fuller today than in the past decade.
Large shipyards are undergoing a modernization of production processes, which will contribute to their
increased competitiveness. Preparations for a stronger presence in the demanding markets in offshore facilities
and mega-yachts are also under way.
With appropriate developmental, financial and market support to their production, Croatian sports and leisure
boats can be expected to appear on both domestic and global markets.
