him in any way she could, and through the attorneys<br />

arrangements were made for an interview. She is<br />

very reserved, quiet and strict; her memory is good.<br />

She is a woman of attractive appearance, modestly<br />

and carefully dressed. She denied any imperfec-<br />

tions in herself while with the boy during her stay<br />

with the family. She said that he was quite all right<br />

at 15 years of age, at the time she left the house.<br />

She said he was a lazy boy, but a bright student.<br />

He was lazy until he got along in several grades at<br />

school where he found that he could graduate in one<br />

year's less time than he expected, if he would study,<br />

and so he began to study hard. She denied that he<br />

ever had fears or any disorder in his sleep. She<br />

would not say anything which might reflect on the<br />

boy, even though she was plainly told that a com-<br />

plete understanding of this boy was essential for an<br />

accurate diagnosis."<br />

She came on here, as Dr. Hulbert said, to do any-<br />

thing within her power to help the boy, short of<br />

perjury; although she was told that a complete<br />

understanding of the boy was essential for a correct<br />

diagnosis, which means for a defense in this <strong>case</strong>,<br />

she would not say anything that might reflect upon<br />

him, because she intended to tell the truth, and that<br />

is why she was sworn as a witness before these<br />

ahenists, but was not brought into court and sworn<br />

before your Honor.<br />

It has been argued here that because Richard<br />

<strong>Loeb</strong> told the doctors that he had no ambition in<br />
