<strong>The</strong> <strong>Loeb</strong>-<strong>Leopold</strong> Case<br />

taken from the house, and with the boots, robe, tape,<br />

automatic pistols, he left his home, to look for the<br />

victim.<br />

And then <strong>Loeb</strong> and <strong>Leopold</strong> drove to the Harvard<br />

School. <strong>Loeb</strong> left the car and went into the yard^<br />

where he was well known by all the little boys in<br />

the neighborhood, and there he spoke to the tutor<br />

of Johnnie Levinson, that sweet, beautiful little boy<br />

who testified before your Honor, and who told you<br />

in all his innocence, that he talked to <strong>Loeb</strong> on that<br />

day, and God knows, when he was on this stand,<br />

he did not realize that he might have been the vic-<br />

tim 01 this cruel, cold-blooded murder.<br />

And after talking to Johnnie Levinson, he entered<br />

the car, where <strong>Leopold</strong> was waiting for him, and<br />

then fearing that they might become observed in<br />

that vicinity and, one of the boys disappearing, that<br />

some one might suspect them, they decided to re-<br />

turn to the <strong>Leopold</strong> home and get a pair of field<br />

glasses so they might observe their intended victim,<br />

and watch his movements, and at the same time<br />

not be observed themselves.<br />

After getting the field glasses at the <strong>Leopold</strong> home<br />

they returned to the Harvard School and from some<br />

distance they watched the little boys in that yard at<br />

play, and they watched in particular Johnnie Levin-<br />

son. And all at once the game broke up, and think-<br />

ing that the boys who were running down the alley,<br />

still playing, were going to return again, they still<br />

remained. And after waiting there a little while,<br />
