His emotions respond not much when he thinks<br />

of the suffering of Mrs. Franks; but when he thinks<br />

that her statement might save his neck, he expe-<br />

riences great joy. No emotion?<br />

Again, on page 119: "<strong>The</strong> patient stated that<br />

although he had no feeling of remorse about the<br />

crime, he felt very, very sorry about it for his<br />

family's sake, because it might cause them distress.<br />

' I would be willing to increase the chance of my<br />

hanging to save the family from believing that I<br />

was the archfiend. My folks have probably had the<br />

blow softened by blaming him (<strong>Leopold</strong>) and his<br />

folks by blaming me; but before I decide to take<br />

the responsibility in order to save my family, I must<br />

consult with my elder brother.' "<br />

Everything he said and told the doctors, he told<br />

it on advice; and repeatedly this report demon-<br />

strates that.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re has been some talk here, in order to make<br />

him appear to be mad, that he even contemplated<br />

killing his little brother Tommy, or killing his<br />

father. <strong>The</strong> evidence in this <strong>case</strong> shows that that<br />

is just thrown in for good measure, that it has no<br />

foundation in fact at all. It is another piece of<br />

perjury manufactured in order to build a foundation<br />

for a perjured insanity defense.<br />

tioned about his attitude toward his family, the<br />
