Castilla y León is a region united in solidarity with and is committed to the development of the
most vulnerable countries. Our society acknowledges and promotes the efforts of the women
and men who, on a daily basis, are trapped in the cycle of poverty and who fight for a better
future.
The 5th Global Microcredit Summit, which we have the opportunity to host in Valladolid from
November 14 to 17, will bring us closer to this instrument, which provides opportunities for
the future to millions of people to lift themselves out of poverty.
Through the sessions and debates that comprise the Summit agenda, we will be able to
acquire an in-depth knowledge of how microloans have been incorporated into cooperative
development programs and how their social component allows beneficiaries to improve their
lives.
This Global Summit is also an opportunity for all of our community’s development agents, who
can enrich themselves through the exchange of good practices presented by different countries
and situations.
Moreover, with the Global Microcredit Summit taking place in Castilla y León, we will
showcase our capacity to welcome all participants. We will be able to demonstrate our country’s
commitment to combating poverty.
I hope these sessions allow us to reflect on the promise that microloans offer, so that the
conclusions you reach become a point of departure for a new commitment to the achievement
of a more just world.
And I encourage all attendees to enjoy our region and our people who, with certainty, will
go above and beyond to provide the best that our culture and hospitality have to offer to all
Spanish and foreign visitors to Castilla y León.
