Sisältö: Luennoilla annetaan yleiskuva biokemian<br />

tutkimuksen periaatteista ja keskeisistä<br />

laboratoriomenetelmistä. Lisäksi käsitellään<br />

työturvallisuutta sekä biologisen materiaalin<br />

käsittelyyn liittyviä toimenpiteitä. Luennot antavat<br />

valmiudet ymmärtää biokemiallisten menetelmien<br />

periaatteet ja auttavat ymmärtämään<br />

saatujen tulosten merkityksen.<br />

Sisältö: The lecture provides the general basics<br />

of bioprocess technology. It specifically concentrates<br />

on bioreactor performance and operation.<br />

A considerable part of the lecture is devoted to<br />

the microbial growth kinetics and the determination<br />

of important process evaluation data in<br />

connection to the generally used cultivation<br />

principles. The lecture also includes practical<br />

simulation exercises. The biotechnological<br />

process: 1. General process schemes, The<br />

culture medium (composition, additives, optimisation).<br />

2. Reactor design and instrumentation I.<br />

3. Reactor design and instrumentation II. 4.<br />

Sterilisation (Principles, sterilisation of air, sterilisation<br />

of medium, kinetics of sterilisation).<br />

Microbial growth and cultivation principles:<br />

5. The bacterial growth curve and methods<br />

of growth characterisation, Growth parameters.<br />

6. The batch process, The MONOD<br />

model, reaction rates and their determination. 7.<br />

Simulation practice: Batch I. 8. The lag phase of<br />

growth, cellular maintenance, cell death. 9.<br />

Kinetics of product and by-product formation.<br />

culture (systems, reactors, technology, specific<br />
