In completing this section, ensure that the elements of an offender’s offence cycle are (or will be) consistent<br />

with the Domain Areas identified as requiring intervention <strong>and</strong> programming referrals.<br />

External Factors<br />

• Crisis situations (personal, financial problems, emotional loss, family, social).<br />

• Substance abuse (heavy consumption with disinhibiting effect on thinking or emotions, exacerbated<br />

aggressiveness, crime used to support consumption).<br />

• Peer pressure (threats, provocation, incitement, seeking approval, association, debts).<br />

• Available victims (victims are accessible, vulnerable).<br />

• Available means (organization, information, arms, <strong>and</strong> accomplices).<br />

• For Aboriginal offenders, the health of the Aboriginal community specific to the offender <strong>and</strong> that<br />

community's view of the offence.<br />

Internal Factors<br />

• Emotional states (frustration, aggressiveness, loss, negative feelings, psychological disorganization).<br />

• Cognitive processes (perceptions, interpretations, distortion, images, <strong>and</strong> errors in thought processes).<br />

• Adaptation processes (projection, denial, rationalization, <strong>and</strong> introjection).<br />

• Actions (behaviour, acting out, impulsivity, etc.).<br />

LEVEL OF RISK<br />

Based on the information available, provide an assessment of the offender’s current level of risk to re-offend in<br />

a specific manner.<br />
