CAPITÃO-GENERAL (A Carlos.) - Então o que é isto, Carlitos? Ainda arrufa<strong>do</strong>s?<br />

CARLOS (Erguen<strong>do</strong>-se.) - Ah! Vossa Excelência não me dirá?...<br />

CAPITÃO-GENERAL - Não te direi absolutamente nada. És muito curioso!<br />

GERTRUDES (Fora.) - O Senhor Capitão-general! On<strong>de</strong> está o Senhor Capitão-general?<br />

CAPITÃO-GENERAL - Que bulha é esta?<br />

Os mesmos, Getru<strong>de</strong>s, Manuel <strong>de</strong> Souza, Teobal<strong>do</strong>, Castelo Branco, Oficiais <strong>de</strong> lanceiros e solda<strong>do</strong>s.<br />

GERTRUDES (Aparece ao fun<strong>do</strong> trazen<strong>do</strong> Manuel <strong>de</strong> Souza arrasta<strong>do</strong> e seguida por to<strong>do</strong>s.) - Ah!<br />

CAPITÃO-GENERAL - Ela quem?<br />

GERTRUDES- Ela, a original <strong>do</strong> retrato.<br />

GERTRUDES - A amante <strong>de</strong> meu mari<strong>do</strong>! Ainda não há <strong>do</strong>is minutos, passan<strong>do</strong> por uma das salas<br />

Excelentíssimo Senhor. (Tira o retrato da algibeira e mostra-o.)<br />

CAPITÃO-GENERAL (Olhan<strong>do</strong>, dá um grito.) - Que vejo! (Á parte.) Minha mulher! (Ven<strong>do</strong> Manuel<br />

<strong>de</strong> Souza.) Vamos! Decididamente a <strong>de</strong>funta não merecia a minha vingança. (Alto a Carlos.) Carlitos,<br />

po<strong>de</strong>s abraçar tua mulher, <strong>do</strong>u-te minha palavra <strong>de</strong> honra...<br />

CARLOS e GABRIELA - Oh! (Abraçam-se.)<br />

CARLOS (Baixo a Gabriela.) - Mas o perdão? Como o obtiveste?<br />

GABRIELA - Dei-lhe o cochicholo <strong>de</strong> papai.<br />

CAPITÃO-GENERAL (A Gertru<strong>de</strong>s.) - Po<strong>de</strong> carregar com seu mari<strong>do</strong>.<br />

GERTRUDES - Ah! Manuel <strong>de</strong> Souza!<br />

CAPITÃO-GENERAL - Está terminada a comédia. (A Gabriela.) Minha senhora, compete-lhe cantar<br />

o couplet final.<br />

GABRIELA - Mas, Senhor Capitão-general...<br />

CASTELO BRANCO - Não insistas, rapariga!<br />

GABRIELA (Ao público.)<br />

Ai! que vidinha! que vidão!<br />

com meu mari<strong>do</strong><br />

estremeci<strong>do</strong><br />

agora eu vou ter, verão!<br />
