ABSTRACT
UNESCO Brasilia Office’s Natural Sciences Sector launched on April 23rd ,
2008, a “Paper and Drawing Contest for Students” to celebrate the United
Nations “World Science Day for Peace and Development” on November
10th . High School students from all over Brazil were asked to write teacheroriented
papers and to draw pictures on the theme “Diversity and
Sustainable Development”. This book contains the best ten pictures, as well
as the best ten papers. The Contest award ceremony was held on November
10th , in Brasilia, in 2008. The Contest and the activities of the “World
Science Day for Peace and Development” were promoted by UNESCO in
partnership with the Brazilian Sciences Academy (ABC); Brazilian Industrial
Development Agency (ABDI); Brazilian Space Agency (AEB); Brazilian
Association of Technological Research Institutes (ABIPTI); British
Council; Permanent Commission of Science, Technology, Innovation,
Communication and Information Technology (CCT) of the Federal Senate;
Research Support Foundation of the Federal District (FAP/DF); Brazilian
Institute of Information on Science and Technology (IBICT); Sangari
Institute; Interlegis; Itaipu Binacional; Ministries of Science and Technology
(MCT), Education (MEC) and Health (MS); Secretariat of the Interministerial
Commission for Sea Resources (SECIRM); Education
Secretariat of the Federal District (SE/GDF); Commercial Learning
National Service (SENAC); Brazilian Society for Progress in Science
(SBPC); European Union and University of Brasília (UnB).
