Basic Readings in Environmental Ethics and Philosophy<br />

Aim of this class is a thorough analysis of classic readings in environmental ethics and<br />
philosophy. Stu<strong>den</strong>ts are required to give class presentations of the different readings and to<br />
actively participate in the discussion. We will examine the specific conceptual frames of<br />
philosophical texts addressing environmental questions like nature conservation, animal<br />
rights, and sustainability issues. During class we will reconstruct how argumentations are<br />
built and addressed. Willingness to a regular and methodical reading is a necessary<br />
requirement for this class.<br />
A complete literature list and a detailed syllabus will be presented during the first introductory<br />
meeting. A reader with all texts will be available at the philosophical library at Schießwall and<br />
partially in electronic form at Stud.IP.<br />
