AUSGETAUSCHTSchweizComenius Camp in Geneva: Diary excerpts1First day in GenevaMy first day in Geneva was very exciting.I took part in an English lesson and I metfriendly people from other countries. Atmidday I met my host family and we atepizza. Then we visited the city of Geneva. There are many sights for example theSt-Peter Cathedral. The St-Peter Cathedralwas completed in the year 1160. Its styleis a mixture of Romanic and Gothic.Another sight is the flower clock, whichwas created in 1955 by the city of Geneva. That was my first day in Geneva.(Mike, Engels)On the first day we arrived in Geneva at8 o’clock. We first went to the school called“Collège de Budé“. There we had a littletalk with some teachers from the schooland then we participated in an Englishlesson. It was funny because the kids werefriendly but the teachers were a bit toosevere. After the lesson, we had a breakduring which we met our host family. Afterwardswe went to the old town of Geneva, where we visited some old churches. We also saw shops where ca. 500g chocolatecosts 300€, which is really expensive! Then we got back to school and we finallywent home and had a nice dinner. Then Iwent to bed and I was happy. That was myfirst day in Geneva, Switzerland.2 3Second day in GenevaOn the second day, we met at school at8.00. There we had our first internationalworkshop about human and childrenrights. We had to fill in a worksheetconcerning who decides what for us, e.g.pocket money, holidays and household activities. Then we got a questionnaire aboutinsults that we can hear at our school. After a short break we went to the UN.First we had to go through a security gate. After that we met our guide. We were toldthat we could not see everything becausethere is always a conference held in theUN. We walked to a big conference hallwhich had many seats and tables with microphones. We could see the UN logo inthe background. On the sides there werepress and translation facilities.Afterwards, we saw an overview of thestructure of the UN. Then we wentthrough lots of corridors and halls, where there were many paintingsand sculptures. The oldest meetingroom had huge pictures against waron the walls. At the end we walked to the largestand most modern conferenceroom, then I realized that you could getlost in the UN halls very easily. (Jan)Afterwards, we went back to school, wherewe had lunch in the school cafeteria. At about 2 o'clock we went to CERN.We visited the exhibitions about physicalphenomena. Thereafter, we went to theGlobe of Science and Innovation, whichwas directly across the street. There wesaw a show about the big bang and dust inspace. Then we went back to school and, finally, to our host families.Third day in GenevaDear Diary,On the third day in the morning we had aproject with the Red Cross. We first talkedabout human rights. Later the Red Crossorganized many simulations about war, prisoners and injured persons. In the firstsimulation, we were the prisoners: a manshouted and told us what we had to do.For example, we had to put our hands upor we had to sing. Then we had to bring a package fromone point to another but it was difficultbecause there were tables and chairs connectedwith a cord and the girl who carriedthe package couldn’t see anything, so anotherparticipant had to guide her. Whenthe package was on the other side, it wasas if there was a “border” because we hadto show our passport and deal with thecustoms officer. For the next simulation, there were pictures representing the armyor civilians. Wehad to shoot picturesdown andexplain why. Forthe last simulationwe entered aroom where threepersons were lyingon the floor. The first person was very hard injuredbut was an enemy, the second was fromour side but not seriously injured, and thethird person was dead and had money inhis pocket. Our job consisted in choosingwhich person we wanted to save first. Then we had lunch and we went to ashopping centre. After this, we went tothe famous art museum named “Mamco”,where we had a guided tour..Lastly, we had a party at school with thestudents, the teachers and the hosts. Weate raclet and talked with the students.(Swetlana)Kästnerforum 35-12/1336 UNTERRICHTEN
