• soils that contain carbonates at a depth <strong>of</strong> less than<br />

Drainage class: Well drained<br />

Permeability: Moderate in the upper part and<br />

moderately slow in the lower part<br />

Landform: Moraines and till plains<br />

Parent material: Thin mantle <strong>of</strong> silty material and the<br />

underlying loamy till<br />

Slope range: 2 to 10 percent<br />

Taxonomic classification: Fine-loamy, mixed, mesic<br />

Oxyaquic Argiudolls<br />

Taxadjunct features: Parr silt loam, 5 to 10 percent<br />

slopes, eroded, has a mollic epipedon that is less<br />

than 10 inches thick. This soil is classified as a<br />

fine-loamy, mixed, mesic Oxyaquic Hapludalf.<br />

Typical pedon <strong>of</strong> Parr silt loam, 2 to 5 percent slopes,<br />

2,186 feet north and 2,604 feet west <strong>of</strong> the southeast<br />

corner <strong>of</strong> sec. 23, T. 44 N., R. 6 E.<br />

Ap1—0 to 4 inches; very dark brown (10YR 2/2) silt<br />

loam, grayish brown (10YR 5/2) dry; weak fine<br />

subangular blocky structure parting to moderate<br />

fine granular; friable; common very fine roots;<br />

common distinct black (10YR 2/1) organic<br />

coatings on faces <strong>of</strong> peds; slightly acid; abrupt<br />

smooth boundary.<br />

Ap2—4 to 11 inches; very dark brown (10YR 2/2) silt<br />

loam, grayish brown (10YR 5/2) dry; moderate<br />

medium subangular blocky structure parting to<br />

weak medium granular; friable; common very fine<br />

roots; common distinct black (10YR 2/1) organic<br />

coatings on faces <strong>of</strong> peds; 1 percent gravel;<br />

neutral; abrupt smooth boundary.<br />

Bt1—11 to 17 inches; brown (10YR 4/3) silty clay<br />

loam; weak medium prismatic structure parting to<br />

moderate fine and medium subangular blocky;<br />

friable; common very fine roots; few distinct dark<br />

brown (10YR 3/3) clay films on faces <strong>of</strong> peds;<br />

common distinct very dark grayish brown (10YR<br />

3/2) organic coatings on faces <strong>of</strong> peds and in<br />

pores; 1 percent gravel; slightly acid; clear smooth<br />

boundary.<br />

2Bt2—17 to 21 inches; dark yellowish brown (10YR<br />

4/4) clay loam; weak medium prismatic structure<br />

parting to moderate fine and medium subangular<br />

blocky; friable; common very fine roots; few<br />

distinct brown (10YR 4/3) and dark brown (10YR<br />

3/3) clay films on faces <strong>of</strong> peds; few distinct very<br />

dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) organic coatings
