Composition<br />

Danabrook and similar soils: 90 percent<br />

Dissimilar soils: 10 percent<br />

Similar soils:<br />

• soils that have slopes <strong>of</strong> less than 2 percent<br />

• soils that have no subsurface layer<br />

• soils that have a seasonal high water table at a<br />

depth <strong>of</strong> less than 2 feet or more than 3.5 feet<br />

• soils that contain more sand in the upper and<br />

middle parts <strong>of</strong> the subsoil<br />

• the poorly drained Drummer soils in drainageways<br />

Permeability: Moderately rapid in the upper part and<br />

rapid in the lower part<br />

Landform: Outwash plains and stream terraces<br />

Parent material: Loamy and sandy outwash<br />

Slope range: 0 to 5 percent<br />

Taxonomic classification: Coarse-loamy, mixed, mesic<br />

Typic Hapludolls<br />

Taxadjunct features: Dickinson sandy loam, 2 to 5<br />

percent slopes, eroded, has a mollic epipedon that<br />

is less than 10 inches thick. This soil is classified<br />

as a coarse-loamy, mixed, mesic Umbric<br />

Dystrochrept.<br />

Typical pedon <strong>of</strong> Dickinson sandy loam, 0 to 2 percent<br />

slopes, 1,048 feet south and 214 feet west <strong>of</strong> the<br />

northeast corner <strong>of</strong> sec. 31, T. 44 N., R. 5 E.<br />

Ap—0 to 8 inches; very dark brown (10YR 2/2)<br />

sandy loam, grayish brown (10YR 5/2) dry; weak<br />

fine and medium subangular blocky structure<br />

parting to weak medium granular; friable; common<br />

very fine roots; strongly acid; clear smooth<br />

boundary.<br />

A—8 to 14 inches; very dark brown (10YR 2/2) sandy<br />

loam, grayish brown (10YR 5/2) dry; weak<br />

medium subangular blocky structure parting to<br />

moderate medium granular; friable; common very<br />

fine roots; moderately acid; clear smooth<br />

boundary.<br />

AB—14 to 18 inches; very dark grayish brown (10YR<br />

3/2) sandy loam, brown (10YR 5/3) dry; weak fine<br />

subangular blocky structure parting to weak fine<br />

granular; friable; common very fine roots;<br />

moderately acid; clear smooth boundary.<br />

Bw—18 to 26 inches; brown (10YR 4/3) sandy loam;<br />

moderate fine and medium subangular blocky<br />

structure; friable; common very fine roots; many<br />

distinct dark brown (10YR 3/3) organic coatings<br />

on faces <strong>of</strong> peds; 1 percent gravel; moderately<br />

acid; clear smooth boundary.<br />

BC—26 to 38 inches; dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/6)<br />

loamy sand; weak medium subangular blocky<br />

structure; very friable; common very fine roots;<br />

slightly acid; gradual smooth boundary.<br />

C—38 to 60 inches; 90 percent dark yellowish brown<br />

(10YR 4/6) and 10 percent dark yellowish brown<br />

(10YR 4/4), stratified sand and loamy sand; single<br />

grain; loose; 1 percent gravel; slightly acid.<br />
