Composition<br />

Millbrook and similar soils: 85 percent<br />

Dissimilar soils: 15 percent<br />

Similar soils:<br />

• soils that have a seasonal high water table at a<br />

depth <strong>of</strong> more than 2.5 feet<br />

• soils that have a darker subsurface layer<br />

• soils that contain sandy and gravelly deposits in the<br />

lower part <strong>of</strong> the pr<strong>of</strong>ile<br />

• soils that contain loamy outwash at a depth <strong>of</strong> more<br />

than 40 inches<br />

Dissimilar soils:<br />

• the well drained Harvard and Proctor soils in the<br />

higher positions on the landform<br />

• the poorly drained Pella soils in depressions and<br />

T. 46 N., R. 8 E.<br />

A1—0 to 8 inches; black (10YR 2/1) silt loam, dark<br />

gray (10YR 4/1) dry; moderate fine and medium<br />

granular structure; friable; many very fine roots;<br />

about 25 percent sand; 4 percent fine snail-shell<br />

fragments; violently effervescent; moderately<br />

alkaline; clear smooth boundary.<br />

A2—8 to 14 inches; black (N 2.5/0) silt loam, very dark<br />

gray (10YR 3/1) dry; weak medium subangular<br />

blocky structure parting to moderate medium<br />

granular; friable; many very fine roots; about 25<br />

percent sand; 5 percent fine snail-shell fragments;<br />

violently effervescent; moderately alkaline; clear<br />

smooth boundary.<br />

A3—14 to 21 inches; black (10YR 2/1) silt loam; weak<br />

fine and medium subangular blocky structure<br />

parting to moderate medium granular; friable;<br />

common very fine roots; about 15 percent sand;<br />

common distinct black (N 2.5/0) organic coatings<br />

on faces <strong>of</strong> peds and in pores; 6 percent fine<br />

snail-shell fragments; common fine prominent<br />

dark brown (7.5YR 3/3) masses <strong>of</strong> iron<br />

accumulation in the matrix; violently effervescent;<br />

moderately alkaline; clear smooth boundary.<br />

Bg—21 to 37 inches; very dark gray (2.5Y 3/1) silt<br />

loam; weak medium subangular blocky structure;<br />

friable; common very fine roots; about 20 percent<br />

sand; few distinct black (N 2.5/0) organic coatings<br />

on faces <strong>of</strong> peds and in pores; 1 percent fine<br />

snail-shell fragments; common fine and medium<br />

distinct dark olive brown (2.5Y 3/3) masses <strong>of</strong><br />

iron accumulation in the matrix; strongly<br />

effervescent; moderately alkaline; clear smooth<br />

boundary.<br />

Cg—37 to 60 inches; 55 percent dark grayish brown<br />

(2.5Y 4/2), 30 percent light brownish gray (2.5Y<br />

6/2), and 15 percent yellowish brown (10YR 5/6),<br />

stratified loam, silt loam, and sandy loam;<br />

massive; friable; common very fine roots; few<br />

distinct black (10YR 2/1) organic coatings in root<br />

channels and in pores; 1 percent gravel; slightly<br />
