Spirit's thoughts <strong>of</strong> At<strong>on</strong>ement are to your detriment.<br />
The temptati<strong>on</strong> is to believe that judgment,<br />
specialness, attack and defense will make you happy,<br />
safe, str<strong>on</strong>g, secure and loved; and forgiveness will<br />
make you unhappy, vulnerable, weak and <strong>in</strong>secure.<br />
•<br />
Forgiveness is a central <strong>the</strong>me <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Course</strong> and is<br />
touched up<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>se early chapters. If we want to<br />
jo<strong>in</strong> with God, we must jo<strong>in</strong> with our bro<strong>the</strong>rs. We<br />
cannot reject or exclude our bro<strong>the</strong>rs if we are to<br />
return Home.<br />
•<br />
The S<strong>on</strong>ship is <strong>on</strong>e. All are <strong>in</strong>cluded. N<strong>on</strong>e is<br />
excluded. By accept<strong>in</strong>g and forgiv<strong>in</strong>g our bro<strong>the</strong>rs,<br />
we are accept<strong>in</strong>g and forgiv<strong>in</strong>g ourselves.<br />
Forgiveness facilitates <strong>the</strong> At<strong>on</strong>ement ― <strong>the</strong><br />
realizati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>on</strong>eness.<br />
•<br />
Your bro<strong>the</strong>r is not separate from God. To reject or<br />
exclude your bro<strong>the</strong>r is to reject and exclude Jesus<br />
and God. Reject<strong>in</strong>g and exclud<strong>in</strong>g your bro<strong>the</strong>r is<br />
reject<strong>in</strong>g and exclud<strong>in</strong>g part <strong>of</strong> yourself because your<br />
bro<strong>the</strong>r and Jesus are projecti<strong>on</strong>s <strong>of</strong> your m<strong>in</strong>d. By<br />
forgiv<strong>in</strong>g your bro<strong>the</strong>r, you are forgiv<strong>in</strong>g a part <strong>of</strong><br />
yourself you had previously c<strong>on</strong>demned and rejected.<br />
To c<strong>on</strong>demn or reject even <strong>on</strong>e pers<strong>on</strong> is to c<strong>on</strong>demn<br />
and reject yourself, God and <strong>the</strong> whole S<strong>on</strong>ship.<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>Notes</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> Chapter Four – The Illusi<strong>on</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ego<br />

•<br />
The S<strong>on</strong>ship is <strong>on</strong>e. There are no excepti<strong>on</strong>s. The<br />
<strong>on</strong>eness <strong>of</strong> God's S<strong>on</strong> is crucial to understand now<br />
and is developed over <strong>the</strong> rest <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Course</strong>.<br />
•<br />
Teach<strong>in</strong>g and learn<strong>in</strong>g is a key <strong>the</strong>me <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Course</strong>,<br />
and is developed <strong>in</strong> later chapters and especially <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Manual for Teachers. The key realizati<strong>on</strong> is that<br />
teach<strong>in</strong>g and learn<strong>in</strong>g are <strong>the</strong> same; just as giv<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
receiv<strong>in</strong>g are <strong>the</strong> same. You receive what you give.<br />
Giv<strong>in</strong>g love, you receive it. To learn peace, you must<br />
teach it. This teach<strong>in</strong>g and learn<strong>in</strong>g is <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> m<strong>in</strong>d,<br />
not <strong>the</strong> world.<br />
•<br />
To learn heal<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> m<strong>in</strong>d, we teach it by<br />
dem<strong>on</strong>strat<strong>in</strong>g it. To learn separati<strong>on</strong>, judgment and<br />
c<strong>on</strong>demnati<strong>on</strong>, we teach it by dem<strong>on</strong>strat<strong>in</strong>g it.<br />
•<br />
The ego is specialness, separati<strong>on</strong>, s<strong>in</strong>, guilt, fear,<br />
c<strong>on</strong>flict, anger, war, hate and death. To dem<strong>on</strong>strate<br />
is to teach. To teach is to learn. Teach <strong>on</strong>ly love and<br />
<strong>on</strong>eness, and you learn it. Teach separati<strong>on</strong> and fear,<br />
and you learn it.<br />
