I am a portrait and figurative artist who works in oils. Within the studio
environment will be sketch pads showing studies of my portraits and
figurative work. Also on display will be some of my portraits as well as other
recent figurative works. I will discuss with visitors how I approach working
on a portrait and what is involved from both the artist and sitter.
directions: From Newton Stewart take the A714 for Wigtown, which is some 6
miles. When arriving into Wigtown drive around to the other side of the village
square to South Street. My Studio at The Reading Lasses is towards the bottom
of the street opposite the bowling green.

Come along to see what our artist-in-residence, Joanne B Kaar, has
made over the winter months using leaves and grasses collected during
the Wigtown Book Festival, inspired by the adventures of Newton and
Stewart, the Wigtown Waggers! Have a go at making your own yarn from
local plants and join in the fun adding a few words to write a new chapter
in the adventures of Newton and Stewart.

directions: Based in the RSPB Visitor Centre on the top floor of the County
Buildings, Joanne’s studio overlooks Wigtown Bay and many of the gardens from
where she gained inspiration and materials for her residency. The building is also
home to the John McNeillie Library and the original Martyrs Cell.

south west of Whithorn on the A747 - visit before it gets dark.
