Natural fibres and traditional weaving techniques, combined with inspiration<br />

from landscapes, architecture, h<strong>is</strong>tory or emotions, provides a fascinating<br />

journey. I love exploring the tactile qualities of natural fibres to produce<br />

abstract and colourful images. V<strong>is</strong>itors will be able to see fin<strong>is</strong>hed pieces<br />

from a range of projects and also work in progress on my upright loom.<br />

Lots of weaving samplers to touch and look at and an opportunity to<br />

see the materials and equipment I use for my weavings.<br />

directions: From the clock tower on King Street go along St Andrews Street<br />

and then onto Abercromby Road (A713). Duneaton <strong>is</strong> at the far end of the<br />

road near the bridge of the A75, opposite the golfing green. <strong>The</strong>re <strong>is</strong> unrestricted<br />

Leo Blamire’s creative output spans painting, printmaking and music.<br />

H<strong>is</strong> love of animals, insects and interior scenes <strong>is</strong> depicted in the detailed,<br />

colourful oil paintings he produces, often with an unusual slant. He uses<br />

the printmaking process to allow him to explore pattern and design.<br />

Sometimes he uses cut up and hand manipulated photographs as part of<br />

the screenprint, creating a styl<strong>is</strong>ed and striking final image. H<strong>is</strong> studio <strong>is</strong> part<br />

of the charming McGill Duncan Gallery. After enjoying the artwork why not<br />

take a moment from your busy day with a refreshment in the lovely garden.<br />

bottom of King Street, the main shopping street in the town. It <strong>is</strong> down hill from<br />

the clock tower on the opposite side of the road, a few doors down from the<br />

recommendations: Laurie Arms Hotel (7). A Lovely village pub situated in Haugh<br />

of Urr, 3 miles outside Castle Douglas. Classic and delicious pub grub with superb<br />

cask ales. Threave Castle (8). A boat trip, an amazing castle and quite possibly<br />

some osprey sightings. 1.5 miles west of Castle Douglas.<br />
